Bajawa Airport - need help?[edit]

Hi Hakre, and welcome to Wikipedia. I've taken a look at what you've been doing with the Bajawa Airport article. In Wikipedia, you don't move an article by copying the content and pasting it onto a different new article. That causes a number of problems, mainly the fact that the edition history must be preserved. Articles can actually be renamed without losing the history. I will help you to do it. Let me know when you see this message (you can reply right here) and I'll help you. Azylber (talk) 15:07, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your offer of help, yes my edits could really benefit from some help of you: The original entry Bajawa Airport could/should be moved over to Padhameleda Airport. The bare facts in the Bajawa Airport given before would not allow this move (the ICAO code is inexistant (probably outdated), the IATA code wrong (probably outdated), so it could not be said which airport was physically meant named in the article, so I did not move it), but in the end by the secondary name given it should be Padhameleda Airport if you would be interested in my opinion.
On the other hand, by the IATA Code and a probably change of the ICAO code for that country (I can not refer to any publicly available sources that there ever was an ICAO code given that earlier code so far, I contacted ICAO for clarification materials), the airport given originally on Wikipedia might have been Bajawa Soa Airport - an airport that exists and has been confirmed by Indonesian aviation authorities (you kept the reference link now in the wrong article because of your edit, just FYI).
As you can see this is less a move but actually a split. Indeed I have no clue how to duplicate the history of a Wikipedia article (I bet Wikipedia even does not offer something of that in their software, but you should know better). I only read about moving and it didn't look fitting in this case, especially as I kept the original page with it's history. In it's current form (with obviously wrong airport information, this does not match *any* public sources) it should not stay that way.
Can you help to fix this? Can you copy over history of one page to another? --Hakre (talk) 16:40, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah ok, thanks for explaining, I see what you mean. And yes, I can definitely help you to do all these things and I'll try to explain as much as possible.
  • Ok, first things first: in Wikipedia, when you want to change the name of an article, you don't copy the content and paste it somewhere else. Instead, what you do is you move the article (in Wikipedia, renaming an article is called moving). If you want to move an article, there is a little down-pointing arrow right next to the "View history" link. So if you want to change the name of an article in the correct way, what you do is you go to the article, you click on this little down arrow (when you put your mouse over it it will say move), and you follow the steps. If you can't see this little arrow, it means you're too new and you don't have this tool yet, but Wikipedia will give it to you automatically after a few days. In the meantime, I can do it for you if you want.
  • I know you're saying you want to split it, not to move it, but in reality what you want to do is move most of the content to another name, so you need to do a move, not a copy&paste.
  • Another thing that you need to know is that right now it will be impossible to rename the article Bajawa Airport to Bajawa Soa Airport because you created an article with that name today when you did the copy&paste. I have already requested that it be deleted. We will have to wait a couple of days for it to be deleted, and then the renaming will be possible.
  • And finally one more thing that you should know, is how the name of an article is chosen. The rule for the English Wikipedia is that generally the most common English name for the subject should be used for the article name. That is why, for example, the article about the city of Rome is called Rome, and not Roma (the Italian name). Because English speakers use the name Rome for it. When it comes to airports, you will see that the vast majority of articles about airports are always called xxx Airport, where xxx is the name of the city. And most of the exceptions happen when there is more than one airport in a city, or when an airport is famously known in English under a certain name. So basically the question you have to ask yourself before deciding the name of an article is: "What is the most common name an English speaking person would use to refer to this place/thing/person/etc".
I hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else you want to know or if you want me to help you to move something. Azylber (talk) 17:05, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your very good and well to understood help. Here is what I think then should have been the edit: Move Bajawa Airport to Padhameleda Airport. That is the common name. Bajawa is the name of the region, not the name of the airport. The Bajawa Soa Airport can stay as is, it does not need deletion. It is a different airport. I think that would best reflect the reality. Additionally on the then Bajawa Airport article - which should have been converted to a redirect because of the move - both new articles could be linked until the new articles have settled a bit. What do you think about that? --Hakre (talk) 17:57, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, ok, now I know exactly what you want to do. No problem. To do what you want, you have to do one thing: go as soon as possible to the current Padhameleda Airport article and delete all the contents (leave it empty). Then wait a couple of days and you will see that it will get deleted. Once it gets deleted, we can move the current Bajawa Airport article there. That's the best way to achieve what you want to do.
As regards the current Bajawa Soa Airport article, don't touch it for now. Wait for the speedy deletion to take place, to get rid of the copy&paste issue, and then you can re-create it.
These 2 things will take a while (from a few hours to a couple of days maximum). You'll have to have a bit of patience :) In the meantime, you can work on other airports :) Azylber (talk) 18:18, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
One thing you might have seen wrong in all this: The Soa Airport page is just not only copy-and-paste, but I verfified the informations incl. checking with official sources and for the airline schedules. So it really should stay, because it's correct and not just dumped there. For the other airport, can't the deletion be speed up so the move can be done? Waiting for days for something that's rather straight forward sounds cumbersome. Especially as all this material is stub stuff. --Hakre (talk) 19:00, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm only trying to help you. The copy&paste you did has already been deleted (see? it didn't take that long) and the original article has been moved to the new name with the word Soa in it. Now you're free to edit it as much as you want. Let me know if you need anything else. Azylber (talk) 19:25, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of WATB (disambiguation)[edit]

The article WATB (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unnecessary disambiguation per WP:TWODABS.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Tavix (talk) 22:44, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
