Emalahleni Local Municipality, Mpumalanga

Just a quick note on your move of Emalahleni Local Municipality, Mpumalanga to Emalahleni Local Municipality. There are two Local Municipalities by that name. One is EC136 in Chris Hani District Municipality (DC13) in the Eastern Cape, the other is MP312 in Nkangala District Municipality (DC31) in Mpumalanga. The postfix on the one you moved was probably added to distinguish between the two. --NJR_ZA (talk) 18:51, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Naming conventions (government departments and ministers)

Regarding this edit and this page, I was wondering if you are going to do the same for United States Department of Defense? Pdfpdf (talk) 23:30, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not, since point 4 of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (government departments and ministers) says that "United States government units and officials" are grandfathered against that policy since they already have a neat and tidy organisational system. - htonl (talk) 10:18, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I guess so. (It's just that in that list it is so obviously different from all the others ... ) "C'est la vie." Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:24, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I agree that optimally it should be changed. (Although, it seems like the US DoD might actually be officially named "U.S. Department of Defence", at least it looks like it on their website.) But I guess it's not worth the upheaval that it would cause (imagine how many links there are to that article!). - htonl (talk) 16:04, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"(imagine how many links there are to that article!). " - There's "only" about 7,000(!)
As it happens, initially there would be no upheaval - "move" would just turn the original into a redirect, and then automatically fix any double redirects.
However, that would do nothing to address the inconsistent naming issue!!
(And no, I'm not volunteering to manually edit 7,000 pages! Though I suppose it wouldn't be a lot of effort to create a bot to do it - it's a pretty simple change.)
Of more relevance, can you imagine the volume of the howls of protest!

Cape Town National Capital

Thanks for the info. Some countries do have a number of capitals. To my mind the classification is strange. New York City is classified high and Suva top. Wallie (talk) 07:46, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I removed the references you inserted with regard to the destinations to/from Cape Town International Airport. If you look at most airport articles, sources are not inserted on destinations that are already established. A simple check in an official timetable such as oag.com or amadeus.net would easily verify the existence of these flights that are already running. However, if there is an announcement that a new route or a new airline would commence flying to/from the airport, then a source is more than welcome in order to be verified. Once it flies, the reference can be removed from the article. Cheers! Elektrik Blue (talk) 13:29, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding photographs in Capetown

Htonl, regarding your offer to take photographs in Capetown, in 1985 I recall seeing a British style pillar box, with George V Rex cypher, somewhere near the Capetown City Hall. I have always regretted that I didn't take a photgraph of it at the time, since this kind of historical curiosity is gradually disappearing worldwide. It may or may not still be there. I'd like to have a photograph of this pillar box taken in such a way as to clearly show the King George V royal cypher, and something in the background that clearly identifies the location as being Capetown. That backdrop would of course preferably be Table Mountain. I'd be much obliged if you could help out on this matter. There is also at least a few pages on wikipedia where such a photograph would be of interest. David Tombe (talk) 16:12, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Htonl, even an Edward VII, George VI, or Elizabeth II would be of interest. I mentioned George V because that is the only kind that I can remember seeing. I also remember seeing one in Rondebosch. David Tombe (talk) 23:50, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Race in South African Provinces

Your deletion of racial demographics from the provinces of South Africa is unacceptable, race is still a very important issue in SA and by deleting true statistics from a page that does not have a demographics subsection, as all provinces/counties/states in other countries have (for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas#Racial_group_and_ethnic_origins), is putting yourself in line for a ban. Your deletion of said statistics is a blatant attempt by you to push your political ideal, this kind of behaviour often gets a user banned. Undo what you have done or create demographic subsections for each province. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cramlemon (talkcontribs) 16:00, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As per your discussion on Template talk:Zamuni I would like to go ahead and get Wikipedia:WikiProject South Africa and specifically the Municipalities task force updated to reflect the fact that we should rather use {{infobox settlement}}. Can you propose the change on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject South Africa/Municipalities task force or just confirm it is a good idea if User talk:AtticusX makes the note before you. Thanks --NJR_ZA (talk) 09:36, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
