"No valid legal reason"[edit]

Hi, I refer to File:Mantis eating a Common Bushbrown (Mycalesis perseus) butterfly.jpg, where you're signalling that you want to move it to Commons. I must say, I have some sympathy with any editors who are put off by the unethical behaviour of some of the Commons admins. If an uploader (and previous owner) of an image wants to leave it on en.WP alone, I can't see how "legal reasons" come into it. Tony (talk) 06:36, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tony,
I don't think "some user has a problem with another user on Commons" is a good reason to deny the other WMF-projects good images, because that's exactly what he is doing. The template Template:Do not move to Commons is there for images, that shouldn't be copied to Commons out of legal reasons (see wording of the template, the talk page and most of its usages). As he released the image under a free licence it can be copied anywhere (including commons) as long as the licence requirements are met. If he wants to keep a local copy he can just use {{Keep local}}. If he really doesn't want his pictures on Commons, he should stop uploading at all, because that's they only way he can be sure.
Regarding that special image: As it is already commons I won't make any more edits there. I won't promise the same for future uploads of Jkadavoor, that that also misuse the Do not move to Commons-template. Cheers --Isderion (talk) 15:21, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Given the corruption and dysfunction I've met at Commons, my policy is never to upload another image there, and to work against any images I upload to en.WP being transferred. If you want to change that, you might look into why editors find it so odious. Tony (talk) 16:12, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have come across dysfunctional behaviour at all the projects I spend some time on (en, de, commons). For example in my early wikipedia days I was editing in en quite a lot under IP (at that time there was no SUL, but it was promised to come, so I did not create a local account). One day I had an argument with a user (I think about one of the images he uploaded being a copyvio), in the end I got blocked due to the fact that he had some friends and I was just an IP (sorry, can't provide any diffs, it's too long ago). This incident upset me and I practically stopped editing on en. But did I go back to my homewiki (de.wp) and complain there and demand for example that all interwiki links to en should be deleted because I think that there is something seriously wrong on en? No, because such behaviour would be POINTy. Unfortunately that is what Jkadavoor (and you) are doing. If you have a problem, try to solve it; don't create problems for others. --Isderion (talk) 21:25, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to stop the move towards refusing to upload to Commons, deal with the corruption isssues at Commons. Tony (talk) 02:32, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
