If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on James Garland Jr requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Cntras (talk) 04:58, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

January 2011[edit]

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, instead of writing it yourself, as you did at James Garland Jr. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. Zachlipton (talk) 05:03, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from James Garland Jr, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 05:06, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your Article[edit]

First off there is the major problem of conflict of interest (COI). It is generally a bad idea to create or edit any article where you have a COI. There are over 3.5 million articles on wikipedia, and a backlog of hundreds of thousands of pages that need work so there are plenty of areas to work on where you will most likely not have a COI. At a bare minimum you should request review of the article by another uninvolved editor before making any noncontroversial change.

The next problem with this article is one of notability and verifiability. A quick google search turns up no relevant results. That tells me that this subject has not received significant coverage in reliables sources, and is therefore not notable. In addition the article is an unsourced Biography of a Living Person. These articles are given extra attention and less leniency due to the potential for the article to impact someone's life and/or cause legal problems.

It is for all of the above reasons that article will most likely be deleted.
