Help with draft[edit]

{{helpme}}

I have created a Draft page User:Keninuk/Maj. Kanwar Jasjit Singh‎;.

I would like to add a picture to the article, taken directly from my PC. Is there a simple way to do this?

As this is my first New Page I was hoping that it could be given a quick lookover so that if there are any problems with it, I could sort them out before adding it to the Wiki.

Thanks a lot for your time. Keninuk Keninuk (talk) 20:30, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To get comments on your draft, post a request at WP:Requests for feedback. For advice on uploading images, start at WP:Uploading images. You have to be very careful abut copyright and licensing. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:36, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The current draft in User:Keninuk/Maj. Kanwar Jasjit Singh has no references.
Articles must have references to reliable sources, such as books, newspapers, magazines.
See WP:VRS and WP:FIRST.
For more help, you can either;
  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.
The last of those is particularly useful - please try it; pop in now and say hello. Chzz  ►  20:42, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} How do I remove the - User:Keninuk from the article that I had creeated? Also even though I added that the image I wish to upload is owned by me and that it is to be in "Public Domain, I still am not able to upload it! Keninuk Keninuk (talk) 20:48, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, so User:Keninuk/Maj. Kanwar Jasjit Singh is not yet live--there are some issues, too. The biggest is, the references need to be distributed among the text. Each footnote ([1], [2], etc.) should be placed directly after the sentence it backs up, not all of them placed in the end--that doesn't help us verify the information very well. Secondly, please make the tone neutral--"His exceptional career", for example, is not neutral--who calls it exceptional? That's opinion, and should go. Same for "he was a towering political figure in the region" (who called him towering?) "A scholar and master of 6 languages, he had a vast library" (who says he is a master? Who called the library vast?) and "he was liked and admired by all sides" (surely someone disliked him?), etc., so please ensure that everything just states verifiable facts. And, as always, more references if possible.
For the image, File:Kanwar JasjitSingh of Kapurthala.jpg, please fill in all the forms--that is, right here, please make sure that the info is filled out. Unless you personally took the photograph, you cannot call it public domain (unless it is old enough, but that depends what country it is from.) Were you the original photographer of the image? fetch·comms 21:01, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

File copyright problems[edit]

Copyright troubles

File copyright problem with File:Patiala Watch 3.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Patiala Watch 3.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:38, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please Help Me

Help me !

I had created a draft page for "kanwar Jasjit Singh of Kapurthala" and then, I uploaded an image for the article. I do believe that I clearly stated that the image was Free and availlable to the public. It is not easy to do that!!!

Now how do I make this "draft article" actually live on Wiki, adding to the article the image that I have uploaded.

I really can not understand as to why in this day and age the adding of content is so NOT Automatic in WIKI!!!

VERY disapointing indeed.

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE I CAN DO. I OWN THE DARN PICTURE AND THERE IS NO COPYRIGHT PROBLEM HERE. THIS IS TOTALLY LUDECOROUS!

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that you have had difficulties. I 'collapsed' the notices above, to try and keep things clear.
The problem with the files is, you did not choose a 'licence' when you uploaded them.
You said "I own the picture", but you did not say we can use it!
When you uploaded File:Rani Sister's Patiala Watch.jpg, you chose 'Public domain', so - if you look at that file page - you'll see the licence is shown, saying I, the copyright holder of this work, hereby release it into the public domain.
However, for File:Kanwar Jasjit Singh of Kapurthala.jpg, and for the (now deleted) File:Patiala Watch 3.jpg, you did not choose a licence.
To fix the picture of Kanwar Singh, you need to edit the page, and put the code {{PD-self}} in the 'licencing' part, to give your permission for anyone to use the picture.
I hope this helps. Best,  Chzz  ►  00:23, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
