Questions[edit]

Hi, thanks for leaving me a note in my user page (I alredy know about the notice board). but is there a special mechanism of some sort to join?. It is listed in my User Page

Anyways, I propose the creation of argentine-hist-stub and argentine-cult-stub for History and Culture stubs.

It's always nice to see Argentine wikipedians around, specially when the Argentine related articles need a lot of work. (See the de:Argentina page for an example of German engineering :D). I've contributed by documenting a few TV shows, and the whole Argentine Intelligence System, but I plan on doing more. Drop me a note on my if you need any collaboration or information. --San Marcos 07:03, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, no special mechanism for the board. Didn't know you were aware of it, sorry.
Those are stubs that would have many article, its true. It would be hard to know whether to assign either {{argentina-hist-stub}} or {{argentina-poli-stub}} to some, but it might be worth creating it, as well as {{argentina-cult-stub}} (mind the a instead of e, that's the wiki-standard).
Thanks for your collaborations, and good wiking! Mariano 07:25, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page archiving[edit]

I took your latest suggestion on board. Is the new wording better? Last thing I want is to make it too complicated or wordy, and I've read it through so often now I think I'm losing perspective. Cheers, Hajor 15:00, 1 September 2005 (UTC) (The visa thing sounds blood-chilling.)[reply]

Chaco flag on Commons[edit]

Hi!

I have tagged the chaco flag on Commons as cc-by-nd 2.5 and therefore unfree in the sense of Commons. I asserted that it is from the Chaco government website which is cc-by-nd 2.5. Therefore it might be deleted. Greetings ! --ALE! 22:48, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Colectivo[edit]

Remember that even though Colectivos were invented in Buenos Aires, they are/were used all over Argentina.

Chau chau chauuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Thanks for the tip[edit]

Hi there. Thanks for correcting my mistake and for the tip. I'm still trying to figure out how some things work around here. Glad to see there's an active argentine community, I'll be glad to contribute. Regards, --Lobizón 22:36, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Popups tool[edit]

Congratulations on being made an admin! I thought you might like to know of a javascript tool that may help in your editing by giving easy access to many admin features. It's described at Wikipedia:Tools#Navigation_popups. The quick version of the installation procedure for admins is paste the following into User:Marianocecowski/Archive02/monobook.js:

// [[User:Lupin/popups.js]] - please include this line

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
             + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

popupAdminLinks=true;

Give it a try and let me know if you find any glitches or have suggestions for improvements! Lupin 01:50, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why redirect to title in Spanish?[edit]

As this is the English Wiki, I am wondering what the rationale is for your redirect of Conquest of the Desert to the Spanish titled Conquista del Desierto. Moriori 22:10, September 8, 2005 (UTC)

Falklands/Malvinas[edit]

Regardless of your position on whether the islands belong to Argentina or the UK, the English name of the islands is FALKLANDS, not Malvinas. It is NOT pro-British to refer to the islands by their proper English name. Calling the islands Malvinas/Falkland islands is like calling Germany Deutschland/Germany. The name Islas Malvinas can be added in parenthesis if you would like.200.124.35.174 00:15, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Can you move Marambio Air Base to Marambio Base, only admins can. :)

Thanks!

PS: See? It was necessary after all! :)

Yeah, looks ok now... who knows, after doing it I got a message telling me that I couldn't do it and should ask an admin... whatever. :) --Sebastian Kessel Talk 14:56, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

naming conventions[edit]

Yeah, maybe I was being a bit too bold with that.

Obviously we need to use (1) the most common name (where this is not ambiguous) and (2) use English. I think there is a problem with "British invasions of the Rio de la Plata", because it's half translated from Spanish, and half not. The English name of the River Plate is well, River Plate, not Rio de la Plata. It'd be best to try to find out what the historians call it, and looking round the internet "South American War" looked reasonably common within Napoleonic War circles. Maybe I should ask somewhere. My only real concern about that name would be its ambiguity. There is of course much more information in English available on military victories rather than defeats! Provinces of Argentina[edit]

I think I found the discussion you allude to (yet didn't link; if you want people to find supposed standards, maybe YOU should have put something on Talk:Provinces of Argentina?) and, um, it agrees with me? The best reference I can find (since you didn't offer a direct link) is [1], where the vote was 5-1 in favor of using PARENTHESES, not COMMAS. So, what exactly did I do wrong? --Golbez 08:34, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No consent? 5-1. Who had to consent? No one owns these pages. That discussion had been dormant for two months. I'm only touching the provinces; how y'all decide to name the lower divisions is none of my concern at all. Perhaps I should have placed a notice, but then it would likely have gotten left behind and forgotten in the same debate that bogged the issue down two months ago. I decided to be bold. --Golbez 08:46, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize of my responses were a bit curt at the time, it's late and I was irritated that you said it was "a pity" that I didn't search for a two month old dead debate that found in my favor, so I think I was understandably a little miffed at being called out on it. But I still apologize. --Golbez 08:50, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request a move (informally)[edit]

Mariano, could you help me with a page move? We have Esteban Echeverría (author), where no dab is needed, but Esteban Echeverría is taken (I moved it to Esteban Echeverría (disambiguation) but the redirect stays there). The dab was apparently created because the name is also a partido in Buenos Aires (but that would be Esteban Echeverría Partido, if written at all). Can you delete the redirect Esteban Echeverría so I can move the "(author)" page there? Thanks. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 12:54, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I've fixed the "Partido" convention. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 13:55, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

South American Football club stubs[edit]

Hi, I was wondering why you took the "South American Football club stubs" tags out of the Boca Juniors, River Plate and other argentinian teams. I added them because it would be nice to have all the south-american soccer teams in a single category (Category:South American football club stubs) so that people have quicker access to them, and also to make editing easier. Thank you for your vote, and HDI discussion underway ...[edit]

Hello! I hope you're well. I'd like to thank you for participating in the vote earlier to include the HDI in the country infobox/template. Yay!

After a lengthy gestation, a discussion piece has been prepared to help give form to the vote. If you've a preference for how and where this information should appear in the infobox, I'd appreciate it if you head on over there and comment. :)

After a decision is arrived at, if at all, I'm also hopeful to prevail upon you to add the values (if you're willing and comfortable) for a handful of countries; the more people doing it, the less time it will take to implement the vote and realise the fruits of our collective labour.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again for your co-operation! E Pluribus Anthony 04:06, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Eva Peron Page[edit]

Thanks for the compliments. Believe it or not, I do try to make the edits compact. Two things tend to get in my way of doing that, though: 1. I'm something of a perfectionist and continually see things that need to be improved, 2. my computer and AOL has been known to freeze up and/or crash, causing me to lose work; and this leads to a tendency to want to save something immediately after I've written it, hence the frequent edits. I'll try to make them all more compact, though. -- Andrew Parodi 11:45, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Argentina's GDP[edit]

Mariano, I think the figure of the GDP in Argentina that you reverted (and the anon user has just re-wrote) may be correct, since it's PPP (purchasing power parity), not "real" dollars. Must be from the CIA; the World Bank uses a different method. We should just confirm it with a source. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 15:07, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Atletico de Rafaela[edit]

Hola. Bueno, gracias, saludos.

Sorry about the edit conflicts here, I'm faaaast! :) Sebastian Kessel Talk 23:54, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Biography links[edit]

All those links were to a geocities sites that was illegally hosting material published by the Nobel Foundation. I see little point keepting them in the article when (1) many already had a link to the same material and the Nobel foundation site and (2) The geocities site is probably going to get taken down for serious copyright violations.--nixie 23:39, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I think we are there. I was actually gonna close the discussion today (one month of discussion oughta do it) and summarise everything in the next day or two, proposing a workable plan of attack. As well, no one can really challenge the results of this vote/discussion once implemented (which I sense may still happen). Make sense? Thanks for your patience and for your anticipated co-operation! :) E Pluribus Anthony 07:52, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Any particular reason you added Facón as a "see also in the Gaucho article? The word was already linked; usually we don't add "see also" links for words that arise naturally in the article. -- Jmabel | Talk 03:11, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects[edit]

Mariano, I think you should delete the redirect-pages Sergio Goycoechea ( > Sergio Goycochea) and Franco Constanzo ( > Franco Costanzo) because those article names are mispelled. Mxcatania 16:08, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Che, I actually learned the right spelling by using "Constanzo"... I didn't know the real one... Why delete it? Sebastian Kessel Talk 15:58, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

Maybe I'm mistaken and you placed it better.

It's not a bad idea but I wouldn't make it a huge part since the article is already so big. On the other hand my wife is expecting our first child in less than a week, as you can imagine, I barely have time. I can help, but I don't think I can take the initiative. :)
