Deletion of Asian Playboy

Hi there. You just deleted Asian Playboy for CSD:G11. I had a question for you. The same page was previously created a few times under the name The Asian Playboy, but that page has now been blocked from creation. Is it possible to do the same for this page? Or is it too early since it's only the first time it was created (without the "The")?

The reason I ask is because the same few editors (User:Lucywriter and User:Princetoncc are 2 I know of) keep recreating several related pages with the similar advertising. ABCs of Attraction, Kevin Feng, and (The) Asian Playboy. Another new one today was JT Tran (which is the real name of the Asian Playboy). --Logical Fuzz (talk) 02:13, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Rucka Rucka Ali

Um hello, I'm here to ask about making a blocked article, Rucka Rucka Ali. It is blocked, due to n00bs making bad articles on it. Is there any way that I can make it? Such as you undoing the block?

Thbarnes

I just spotted User:Thbarnes writing what appears to be an article about himself and have tagged it. Under further evidence, it would appear that he's made articles revolving around some kind of lawsuit against a university. I'm uncertain of what to do here. Am I right that there are BLP concerns and should these edits (including the controversy section on Valdosta State University all be removed? -WarthogDemon 03:25, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Michael,

I'm thinking of providing a translation of the French article AgoraVox.

I see you speedily deleted an earlier attempt at an AgoraVox article because it 'was an article about a web site, blog, online forum, webcomic, podcast, or similar web content that didn't assert the importance or significance of its subject'.

The previous article was all of four sentences with no references. Pretty much any translation of the french version (I'm assuming anyways since I know absolutely no French) would be a huge improvement over what was there. I would also recommend you focus on writing about the website itself and not focus on singular events (such as your 3rd point). You can write about events in passing, but I wouldn't spend a large amount of prose on them. --Michael Greiner 04:43, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

It will be a pretty full translation of the French article and linking properly to notable figures such as Joël de Rosnay (a founder) and relevant articles such as Citizen journalism and of course properly referenced. I don't think I need to see the previous version. I doubt I'll refer to Banon, but what I will likely do is make a brief reference to Agoravox on her BLP.
It will take me several days and I'll add a link to it here when I'm done and perhaps you can let me know of any concerns should you care to review it.

Deletion of Medtech

Hi Michael,

Over the weekend you deleted the page I created for Medtech Institute. I get that you did so because you thought that it was advertising and irrelevant. As I am new to Wikipedia, what would I have to add to make this article wiki friendly? If I started a draft page on my user front or in sandbox would you be able to help and point me in the right direction so my content can stay and be beneficial to other users? First off, there already was an article for the subject at MedTech College. Secondly, I don't see how the school is particularly notable. Mentions from reliable sources such as newspapers or local television reports should make up the foundation of any article. --Michael Greiner 19:40, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I really appreciate your help. To explain, I am aware of the Medtech College page, there are five Medtech campuses that go by that name. However, my reasoning for creating a generic Medtech page is because five new campuses classify themselves as Medtech Institute (rather than college). Once the Medtech page has been established I hope to merge it with the Medtech College page to avoid confusion. In regards to notability, I may have not made it clear in the first article, but in my revision I will make sure to highlight Medtech's notability with reliable resources . Does that sound like it would help? If you have time, please let me know your thoughts.

I would keep everything in one article and just edit the existing article. You may want to move that page to Medtech when you are done, but as long as the two groups are affiliated it should be all in 1 article. --Michael Greiner 20:07, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Michael Greiner,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.


So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.


Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. WP:COSTLYREDIR

Hey, I noticed that you deleted WP:COSTLYREDIR as R2, which clearly isn't applicable as that criterion requires the redirect to be from the main namespace, whereas this was clearly from the Wikipedia namespace. Deletion of Teenage Wasteland

hey there Michael, I just spent two hours creating a page about an English band called Teenage Wasteland. Subsequently, you deleted it due to the fact it did not explain their significance. As i doubt you are an expert in English Indie bands or the London music scene, I can't see how you deemed it necessary to delete it. The article did not assert any notability as to why Wikipedia should have an article on the band. Furthermore, there were no reliable sources which are required for articles. Also the hangon message you left on the article's talk page stating, "it details an up-and-coming band who are trying to market themselves on the internet and claim some success." to me seems like you are attempting to use Wikipedia as a promotional platform, which is a huge red flag. I suggest you read the notability guidelines for bands before rewriting the article. --Michael Greiner 23:31, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry if it came across as if I was attempting to use Wikipedia as a promotional platform. It is quite the opposite. Wikipedia is there to inform and I wrote the article to do so. Their lack of marketing success is surely another reason to inform people about them, so the subject seems less vulgar and unknown. You also mention that the article did not assert as to why it should be on Wikipedia, however, if we neglect and ignore small, niche bands such as Teenage Wasteland, or niche subjects in any area, Wikipedia will be reduced to a website that documents only the mainstream rubbish that people already know about. A proper Encyclopedia contains everything from weird to wonderful, from A-Z, so why can't Wikipedia?

Thanks for the heads up! not. God, you really are a jobsworth. You section A7'd it,No indication of importance, but it does state in the article that Teenage Wasteland 'have inspired many other artists of the same or tangential genres. As a collaborative group, with no set line-up, the varying artists have brought aspects into their work from different backgrounds, making the musical progression of the group faster than most.' If this is not important, i'm not sure if Wikipedia, or rather Michael Greiner, in reliable anymore. Pulse Recording

May I ask why the spam speedy for User:Jpoindex/Pulse Recording was declined? It's the same promotional text written by User:Pulserecordings that was speedy deleted at Pulse Recording and Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Pulse Recording. Xauxa

Michael, the page of the Xauxa people was deleted. I would like to develop the page for the Xauxa people, as it is a legitimate topic. I never meant to write a complete article, but start one as a stub . I think the community needs a chance to talk about the topic and develop it- as there are many academic sources online and offline to do so. Please consider reinstating this page for this purpose. I looked through the first few pages of google results before deleting and found nothing related. Feel free to recreate the article with proper sourcing. International Ban Asbestos Secretariat deletion without discussion

Michael, you deleted a page I wrote at 9:00 am this morning at 1:00 pm this afternoon. I put on the page that I was going to add additional materials. I also noted that the organization has been cited by numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications, giving it more than adequate notability. You also did not bother to notify me before you did it. This page had substance, it was cross linked to other anti-asbestos organizations, the article had internal links to other wiki pages. Thus, your mere mention that it was "not notable" does not comply with Wikipedia standards. It seems like you are a little 'deletion happy' from your user page here. Please restore my page so that there can be a discussion of other users for at least a couple of days. (talk) 03:16, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

I'll be happy to put a copy of the article on a user subpage, User:Saltwolf/IBAS. The article text didn't make any claims of significance and none of the references demonstrated notability (one was the group's website, another was a dead link, and the other two were papers published by the group's head) for the group. This allows the article to be deleted under criteria for speedy deletion. The best way to prove notability is by finding mentions in reliable sources. Newspaper or web articles about the groups' work would be an example of this. I wouldn't have your only sources as academic papers citing the groups' work for proving the organization's notability as those wouldn't really be direct references.
Somewhat unrelated, but the article was deleted almost 13 hours after it was created. --Michael Greiner 04:16, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Deletion of eCharta

Hi Michael,

You deleted the page I started creating for eCharta. I don't get why you did so because I just started it and you haven't the whole picture - or probably for that. As I am new to Wikipedia, what would I have to add to make this article wiki friendly? It isn't an ad and it has a lot of history elements; it started from a small town in Greece through a small Philatelic Society the oldest in the country (since 1943) and a philatelic magazine with a lot of gold and silver metal from exhibitions all around the world.
