June 2014[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to William Fairfax (soldier) may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

Some tips on references[edit]

Hello! I've noticed that in some of your articles, some of the references are ambiguous, incomplete, or otherwise unclear, which hinders verification by others. For instance, Nathaniel Bladen contains ambiguous references like "Dictionary of National Biography" (missing year, author, publisher, edition, page number, etc.) and "C BRS/7/53 Hull History Centre". Similarly, William Bladen (Alderman) contains vague references like "Records of the Stationers Company". References like the last two should contain information on where the records are located, what pages consulted, what "C BRS/7/53" refers to, and other bibliographic information (including urls/websites if appropriate). You also cite a lot of primary sources, which should be done sparingly and with caution to prevent Original research or novel synthesis (i.e. statements or conclusions which do not already exist in reliable sources). Per policy, articles should be based largely on secondary sources, and to a lesser extent primary and tertiary sources. Furthermore, primary sources alone (marriage records, membership archives, documents written by a subject, etc.) cannot establish notability: we need evidence that secondary sources besides yourself have considered a subject worthy of note and given it significant coverage. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources and Help:Referencing for beginners for more thorough details on referencing, and strive to provide enough bibliographic information on sources to allow another user to accurately identify and locate the exact source of information. All the best, --Animalparty! (talk) 18:33, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
