Welcome! Great feedback[edit]

I'm not knowledgeable about how to code, but it sounds like you gave some great feedback with that. I'm going to point you towards the WP:Village pumps, in case you wanted to perhaps pursue the idea or any other technical ones that might benefit the project. Who knows, maybe your professor would let you get Wikipedia credit for developing something for the training instead of whatever your normal assignment is! Maybe User:Sage Ross (WMF) knows if anything is in the works already for what you're suggesting. In short, it sounds like what you're suggesting is jives with the general goal of things like WP:E3. Best! Biosthmors (talk) 09:58, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Interactive guidance for getting started is something that is being worked on heavily at the moment. It's in a state of flux, so we haven't integrated it into the student trainings yet, but you can explore a bit by going to Special:GettingStarted.
As for the videos, what OS and browser were you using? We provide the YouTube links because some browsers aren't compatible with the web video player we use; we only host video in open formats, and they are not as well supported as the proprietary alternatives like h.264.--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 13:47, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Online Communities Project[edit]

Hey Tyler. Great! I'd be happy to work on it with you. I am also interested in the Colossus Computer idea if we can't find a third for CAD. Cornellwx (talk) 19:51, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome! I'm going to go update the table on the project talk page (if you haven't already) so that people know about the pairing, and hopefully we can attract another for CAD Nebelmeister (talk) 00:34, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

September 2013[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a message letting you know that one of your recent edits to Education Program talk:Cornell University/Online Communities (Fall 2013) has been undone by an automated computer program called ClueBot NG.

CAD[edit]

Consider yourself knighted, even though such things are not necessary on wikipedia. It's been a while since someone else has improved a met-related article. I look forward to seeing your progress. Thegreatdr (talk) 01:00, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of Cold air damming[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Cold air damming at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! --Allen3 talk 19:40, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I have no choice but to fail this nomination. Five days have past, and though a good effort was made to expand the article from 8,913 characters to 13kB, it still falls short of the required ~38.4kB needed to reach 5× expansion. There is hope, however, as the new rules implemented just a few weeks ago allow you to nominate a good article for DYK that has been passed within 5 days of DYK nomination. This means that, should you be able to successfully improve this article to GA status, you could come back and renominate this. Good luck and cheers! —Bloom6132 (talk) 21:54, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Appalachian Cold Air Damming event October 2002, from Lackmann.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Appalachian Cold Air Damming event October 2002, from Lackmann.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 09:16, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks. Me and the people who worked on the article that used this image realized it fell into a funny area of copyright. The four images shown in this one file are all in the public domain, this is because meteorological satellite imagery, plots, and data are in the public domain, and freely accessible from government websites or university archives. So this is a scanned copy of an image published in a secondary source, the images used in the source are in the public domain. Despite these complications, we are getting copyright permission from the American Meteorological Society, just so that all bases are covered.Nebelmeister (talk) 23:20, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
