Early Life[edit]

Growing up Niki's family moved around a lot, she was never in the same school for more than a grade, sometimes even just one semester. Her family lived between Iran and France until the age of 11 before they perminantely moved to Canada. They lived in Ottawa for a year before moving to Toronto. Her mother is an artist, sculptor and painter, Niki spent most her time growing up in her mother's atelier. As a child she was never restricted when it came to exploring and experimenting with different materials. Throughout her teen years Niki expressed her creativity through several outlets she dabbled in wood carving and is a classically trained pianist. At the age of 16 Niki moved away from home to pursue a career in modeling.

Education[edit]

Niki fast tracked from high school and attended Toronto's Ryerson University for Interior Architecture. However, Niki showed an inclining interest in discovering the world and traveling. Therefore, to fulfill her curiosity Niki made the decision to drop out of university after her second year and use her modeling career as a means to travel and commence a journey of self discovery.

Modeling Career[edit]

Niki began her modeling career at the age 16 with Sutherland Models in Toronto. After participating in the Missoni 50th anniversary show. Niki left Sutherland's for Ford Models and moved to Asia. She appeared in magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire and Elle (magazine). She did campaigns such as Avon perfume and cosmetics. However, since the means of her traveling was to see the world and explore she only cared to work enough to support her bohemian life style. She was always more interested in philanthropy and learning. She adopted a 3 month old baby tiger while living in Bangkok named "Big Boy" who had a broken leg and was left to die.

Contemporary Art[edit]

In 2009, Niki moved to Los Angeles and soon after made the LA FONDRIE her studio. At the time she had very little money so she rented a 18x18 room above the Fondrie. Niki put all her savings towards her art materials. She became fully committed to her art and created her first contemporary art series LUXE TUES which became an intimate exploration of her self and environment. She had her first show in Athens, Greece at the Argo Gallery in Kolonaki, supported by the Canadian embassy. Years before Niki had lived in Athens as a model and worked with Ace Agency, it was her representation lawyer from her modeling days organized her first international show.

Influences[edit]

Niki's art and perspective is greatly influenced by the Dada movement and Surrealism. She is inspired by such artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Andre Breton, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Luis Buñuel. She also admires the work of Andy Warhol as well as Jean-Michel Basquiat. Niki expresses her admiration by stating "The thing that all these brilliant artists had in common is that they were fully committed to their art and lived it. The radically was the selflessness in the name of the art no matter what era and or what Medium; they all explored different mediums from painting, sculpting, poetry etc to a certain extant . Their lives were their canvases." As a painter, Niki is greatly inspired by life and works of Francis Bacon. As a sculpture, she has great admiration for Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel. In her teenage years Niki was deeply fascinated by Camille Claudel and found comfort identifying with her. In the summer of 2011, Niki travelled to central europe to study with video artist and mentor Miha Vipotnik becoming familiarized with the early works of Marina Abramović and Ulay. Working at the LA FONDRIE, Niki is greatly inspired by Los Angeles street art movement "photograffeur", making large self portraits in black and white then working on them and having them documented.
