Help!!!

For anyone who reads this: I need a bit of help. I think it was me who did it, but I'm not sure. Look at Skwxwu7mesh, Kwakwaka'wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth. See how after 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, it stops being indented and just stays along the left in the contents box? I made Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast and that one worked fine. If you know how to fix this, let me know so I don't make this mistake again. lol Thanks OldManRivers 19:25, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

GoT-Shirt!

I recall in a picture you uploaded No Justice on Stolen Land and I like it! Just a comment. Take care, --EndoExo (User:EndoExo)-(whatever!) 19:38, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I made it myself. OldManRivers 20:50, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Well User:EndoExo, I'd be lying if your comment didn't make me want to put the picture back up again. Thanks again. :) OldManRivers 11:14, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
You're welcome. P.S You look great for a 73-year old! --EndoExo (User:EndoExo)-(whatever!) 22:37, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
It's an Old 'Indian trick'. But, I may be stretching it a bit in that photo. (I, like you, don't feel like revealing my secret secret age, just yet.) OldManRivers 22:41, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Nah, you didn't stretch it. You've got plenty of people fooled! They think you'd be, 102, 107 tops :). And about that misspelling where I made it Go T-Sh** it wasn't intentional. Sorry :D. --EndoExo (User:EndoExo)-(whatever!) 00:29, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
I've always wanted to say... well, at least I want to be a pickle. --

A Note About 142.167.127.98

While I don't have any problems with the thrust that they want to add to Canadian residential school system, last night they were pretty much edit warring and 3rr-ing everyone, and they ignored all warnings until they were blocked. you can see a number of requests from Alison and myself trying to get this person, who obviously feels passionately about the issue, to work with the other editors to get their voice heard (and indeed, you can read, on [talk page] that I explained how some of their edits actually hurt their POV.

The problem here is, after a block, which was reduced because Alison decided they were acting in good faith, they instantly went back to doing the exact same uncited edits that caused the issues yesterday. The call for discussing things calmly was actually because this IP address got so out of hand last night. While I'm all in favour of them adding the claims that they're adding, anything that used language that incendiary needs to be cited, and they're not interested in doing so. If you are, I'd very much encourage you to. --Thespian 07:53, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Ah. Thanks for adding clarity for me. When I feel more up to the task, I'll take apart the contributions, this user has added, and I'll see what I can think of for improving the article. Thanks. OldManRivers 08:26, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi dear!

My dear OldManRivers! :) How are you doing, sweetie? I've just seen your request for a userpage design - and of course I will come up with something for you, leave it in my hands ;) We have much to talk about, by the way, as your beautiful message when my dear Skookum introduced you to me has not gone unnoticed, don't worry - it's just that some messages deserve more time and thought when replying, and we do indeed have plenty of time to talk deeper. I really like the basic layout you've made, so I'll just use it to make a generally better looking one. Just give me a day, will you please? Don't go anywhere - I'll be back in a few hours! Love, Phaedriel - 15:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Sounds great. I've been awake all night (Unfortunately on wikipedia). But I haven't seem to have gotten a whole lot done. Mostly just been reading up on my language. But I am here, and will be here. As for talk, I'm one of those people you could ask me anything and I'll probably have something to say. Thanks for the layout. Red and Black are my peoples colours and I thought it would be great to have it on my Userpage ever since I found out you can put colours on userpages. I also added to the Music list and Book list created and inspired by you (Yes, now I remember, that's where I spend most of my time on wikipedia last night). Talk to you soon! 15:22, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

WikiBreak

I've decided to take long needed wikibreak. I check this website way too much, (along with Facebook, Myspace, and Nexopia). There is a difference between life and living. We are faced with many choices in life, one of them being to live more or to die more. Sitting on a computer waiting to see edits or to discuss really mundane topics that can be dealt with in a healthy manner are not living. Dan Millman characterizes it for me very well:

“Wake up! If you knew for certain you had a terminal illness--if you had little time left to live--you would waste precious little of it! Well, I'm telling you...you do have a terminal illness: It's called birth. You don't have more than a few years left. No one does! So be happy now, without reason--or you will never be at all.”

- Dan Millman

I will be back one day my friends. I don't know when, but I need to be on here less and in more constructive and healthy ways. Thanks, talk to you soon. OldManRivers 07:32, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

I hope you live soon. Sorry I couldn't make it to your funeral :)> --

Ooo, ahh!

I found this page through EndoExo's user page. I must say, I want to steal your shirt (that would be ironic, no?). Anyway, there aren't a whole lot of Native archaeologists I'd imageine, what with the latter going and pissing off the former by digging up their bones and sacred materials. I took an archaeology class last semester and find the topic very interesting, but I've got some serious ethical issues with the idea of actually doing it. My former teacher is actually teaching an archaeology class for local Natives (can't remember which group, I think it might be Maidu) who are being asked to oversee local digs. At least things are getting a little better on that front. How is the relationship between the groups in Canada? Hopefully better than here in the States, but maybe not. Anyway, I've taken up enough of your time; you seem like a pretty cool cat. Ungovernable ForcePoll: Which religious text should I read? 06:45, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Indigenous archaeologists is a rare things. My teacher and friend is currently going for his PhD in Archeology at McMaster. The relations between the archaeologists community and the Indigenous peoples varries. In BC, as far as I know, it's progressed a bit, but still need major works. There is some protection from corporations, but a bit, and most archeology agencies of companies usually want more Indigenous involved in different projects. It's a strange field to be interested in for Indigenous. I met a man who said, "I like that. It's a good thing, ya know. To learn the truth and really find out the actual truth and not some old story of divine fax.". I said to him, "Well, archeology is only half, or even 1 third of the whole story itself, and even then, it's not always true." I absolutly love being out on the land, in places that rarely get visited by my people.
The shirt, I made myself. I'm working on getting some more made and going to sell them. Stealing THIS shirt, would be ironic, so please don't steal it. I am quite fond of this shirt. (I originally made it for Indigenous Survival Day).OldManRivers 07:06, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Userpage

Nuu-chah-nulth mythology is under articles that need to be created on your userpage. It has already been created, just thought you'd like to know. --Endo(Exo) 23:58, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

I've been meaning to switch that. Thanks. OldManRivers 23:59, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
You're welcome. --Endo(Exo) 00:01, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh the gods! Thank you so much. It's fantastic.
I hope to be back soon. Probably June 1st. I check here and there, but no working on anything. Thanks again. OldManRivers 05:41, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Nice userpage, and I don't feel like talking about anything, I have only talked to you about 5 or 6 times. --Endo(Exo) 01:57, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey, just out of curiosity, do you know if this is an Edward Curtis photo? - TheMightyQuill 04:25, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

It's quite popular. I'm not even sure who it is (I'll ask around). It looks like his style of photo's but I'm not sure. I'll ask. OldManRivers 05:58, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Cool, I thought so. He carried clothing/blankets around with him that he thought looked traditional and forced people to wear them for photos, so they're fairly easy to recognize. The RBC museum has this great portrait of his where an imaginary nose-piercing was airbrushed in, and a film in which, supposedly, he swapped roles and put on a mask, because the people he was filming weren't acting "indian" enough. - TheMightyQuill 15:23, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Ahh good ol' Edward Curtis. We've watched the Land of the Head Hunters a few times too. My friend is going to be working with UBC next week on a project they are doing with Chicago, New York and Germany. They seemed to have found all the original footage from the filming. There going to put it all together and create this exhibition. My friend job is to get the decedents of the actors in the film to do a dance presentation. It'll be at the Chan Center on July 21 (Aboriginal Day). OldManRivers 18:04, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi OMR, back around for a bit

Something for you to check: Talk:Gustafsen Lake Standoff and note my recent posts here (use the edit history to see which they are). Off to bed, though, talk to you later; hope you like the newsletters....Skookum1 07:41, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

You ever seen this?

Native Countries of North America Thought you might want to add to or amend it.Skookum1 04:56, 20 July 2007 (UTC) By rights it should be retitled a list, unless further text is added. Skxwxwu7mesh Uxwalmixw isn't quite a geographic term, though, is it, more a purely national/people one, yes? I think the context for the St'at'imc Ucwalmicw is slightly different. But what would I know, being a cultus whiteman and all...(actually in Chinook I'm really either Dutchman or maybe, in Puget Sound Jargon, Normanna (borrowed from Norwegian, along with glemme for to forget; not present in other regional variants of the Jargon SFAIK..Skookum1 04:59, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Hopefully you'll see my response here. Skwxwu7mesh-ulh has been refered to as our territory. Actually it was August Jack who said that. (You might of read it too). Uxwumixw really translates to village/nation/tribe/people/a group of humans. It's used to loosely translate into Squamish Nation for the Band Council stuff. ulh, as in Sel'it'wetulh, goes more in to meaning 'our'. I've gotten different responses on more information on ulh, but I'll have to ask more. (P.S. In my language, Sel'it'wetulh translates into 'Of relating to down there" or "People from Down There", speaking of living down the inlet.) But don't quote me on that. It's just something I've heard.
