Thank you for helping Wikipedia. However the edit you made, adding Black- in front of some catagories, making links that don't exsist was inappropirate. And the picture makes it appear that this Actriss is white. I hope this wasn't vandalism. Martinkb ^☎ 04:41, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is called "soapboxing" — using Wikipedia to advocate for your individual point of view. If you wish to include your view in African American, you must find a reliable source that is verifiable that says something similar. Then, the appropriate place for your contribution is in African American#Criticisms of the term. Making a global substitution of the phrase "Black American" for "African American" will be considered vandalism and will be reverted. I have no interest in debating with you the question of whether "African American" or "Black American" is "the proper term." Please read the Wikipedia policies and guidelines described at the top of this page. Wikipedia is not the appropriate place for either of us to "prove" anything or express our opinion. It is a publisher of information that can be cited to reliable sources. The material in African American has been referenced to roughly 70 sources.

As I wrote above, if you find a reliable source that supports your feeling that the phrase "African American" is a "misnomer," please contribute constructively to the article — in the appropriate manner. I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Template:Black American ethnicity, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on [[Talk:Template:Black American ethnicity|its talk page]]. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised.
