File source problem with File:Brain1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Brain1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:05, 25 November 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. dave pape (talk) 04:05, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you and some advice[edit]

Thank you for your extremely welcome approach to wikipedia.

However here are some remarks and advices about common beginners' mistakes I noticed in your Visual search page. Please convey them to all participants of the project.

  • In wikipedia, headers are not capitalized
  • I noticed that the content ofVisual search was completely replaced, rather than gradually merged. As a result, several important page items were lost. Please make a habit check the history differences in such cases, despite the seeming obviousness: please check what was lost here and restore. (I could have done it myself, but this is a good exercise :-)
  • Wikipedia is not paper, and the whole project should not be in a single page. Quite a few users have problems with loading huge texts. I would like to bring your attention to WIkipedia:Summary style. In particular, in visual search page you have a section Visual search#Feature integration theory (FIT). I am not sure whether you are aware that wikipedia has the article Feature integration theory. FIT is a quite separate topic in itself. Therefore all new content (if any) you added into Visual search#Feature integration theory (FIT) must go into the article Feature integration theory instead, whereas the section Visual search#Feature integration theory (FIT) must contain a summary of major points of of the FIT, with the beginning of the section tagged with {{main|[Feature integration theory}}
  • Wikipedia as a whole is a rather chaotic... er... decentralized project. However there are "special interest groups" called wikipedia:wikiProjects which try to coordinate activities in particular areas. It would be a good exercise to learn how to communicate with other people, e.g., with wikipedians. Please take a look into Talk:Neuropsychology for three wikiProjects the article Visual search falls into. Please announce your endeavor there, and I am sure you will get much more advice and help with article structuring, formatting, etc.
  • This remark is related to the previous two. Because of decentralization various articles pop up here and there. Take, for example, your section title Visual search#Face Recognition.
    • Some of existing wikipedia articles may heavily overlap with the subject you cover. Please search wikipedia for key phrases, such as possible topic titles, such as section titles in your texts. Please try several different variants and spelling, and if found try to integrate them into your article using Wikipedia:Summary style.
    • Some others, despite the similarity of the title, talk about the subject from the totally different angle. This is the case I noticed with the title Face recognition: its not an article, but rather a redirect to "Facial recognition system". It is easily seen that the latter subject is very different than what I see in Visual search#Face Recognition and the two must be handled by two different articles, with mutual references. Such situations are handled by the rule Wikipedia:Disambiguation: generally speaking, it is advisable to have the titles face recognition (neuroscience) and face recognition (computing) or someting similar. However in this case the situation is a bit more tricky: a quick wikpiedia search shows that it already has a disambiguation page, facial recognition %ndash; a title 100% synonymous to "face recognition". Therefore your actions must be as follows:
      1. redirect "face recognition" to "facial recognition"
      2. merge your Visual search#Face Recognition with face perception using wikipedia:Summary style (if I am not mistaken, they cover the same subject. If I am mistaken, please write a separate page and list it in "facial recognition" disambig page.)
      3. Browse wikipedia whether it has other articles or article sectiojns with simiular titles, such as facial perception, face detection, etc., and make an order in wikipedia, so that the contents are in sync.
  • Finally, it would be a good idea than your User:Psyc4600 contain the list of all significantly rewritten articles or sections of the articles.

There are a couple of pages related to class project-type activities at Wikipedia:School and_university projects and Wikipedia:WikiProject Classroom coordination.

Thank you for your involvement again. - Altenmann >t 17:36, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Adolescents and marijuana.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because images on Wikipedia need to be compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike or another free license, which allow anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. In certain limited cases, we may be able to use an image under a claim of fair use - if you are certain that fair use would apply here, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list. If no fair use rationale applies, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Avicennasis @ 01:29, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
