IFDB template in German Wikipedia[edit]

Hi, you have just created template:IFDB.

  • That name is very much too short according to our guidelines.
  • The abbreviation might mean International Football Database, International Film Database, or whatever.

Please move to a more self-explaining name, not in danger to be misunderstood, e.g.:

  • template:InteractiveFictionDB
  • template:ifdb.tads.org
  • template:Interactive Fiction Database

Thanks --PerfektesChaos (talk) 22:00, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the suggestion.
I guess template:InteractiveFictionDB would be a better name then.
Where can I find the guidelines you mentioned for the length, are they specific for naming templates? --Rqndom (talk) 09:51, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for signalling cooperation.
There are no specific rules, but it is mentioned on de:H:Vorlagen #Vorlagen erstellen:
  • Es gibt keine genauen Regeln für die Auswahl eines Vorlagennamens, er sollte jedoch für alle anderen Autoren ausreichend beschreibend sein; dann so kurz wie möglich. Abkürzungen mit weniger als vier Buchstaben sollten ausgesuchten Anwendungen vorbehalten sein. Existieren bereits ähnliche Vorlagen, dann nutze eine konsistente Benennung.
  • There are no precise rules for choosing a template name, but it should be a sufficient description for other users. If distinctive than as short as possible. Abbreviations with less then four letters are reserved for selected applications. If there exist similar templates please use a consistent scheme.
While less than four letters in abbreviations are undesired in general, a four letter abbreviation like IFDB is not sufficient since the F may be Football, Film, Family, Food, Fighter, Founder, Factory, Financial, Format, Foundation, etc. and any International/Internet F Database would use the same abbreviation. A sufficient purpose description needs to be unambiguous. There is nothing like a disambiguation page for executing a template.

September 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Gove City, Kansas: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. Thegreatluigi (talk) 13:46, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A cupcake for you![edit]
