Conflict of interest[edit]

If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you. 98.248.33.198 (talk) 02:01, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio[edit]

Your addition to Mount Elephant has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Deor (talk) 13:34, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

February 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Lismore, Victoria do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Mattinbgn (talk) 03:57, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Princetown, Victoria. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Adding these links to every town in the Western District is considered spamming. Wikipedia is not a place to push your favourite cause. Please stop. Mattinbgn (talk) 04:26, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning; the next time you insert a spam link, as you did at Terang, Victoria, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. I don't care if it is a good cause, you will be blocked if you continue. You have been warned. Mattinbgn (talk) 04:32, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Adding relevant local links to towns in Wikipedia.[edit]

Mattinbgn

Adding relevant local links to towns in Wikipedia is to enhance that town and page.

It gives visitors an indication of surrounding areas and hence other places to visit and explore.

So what is wrong with that, it only improves the Wiki experience I would think.

Perhaps some one elses opinion will be useful here. I have asked someone else to have a look at this situation at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#User:Savelephant. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 05:27, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please read Wikipedia:External links, Wikipedia:Spam, Wikipedia:Soapbox and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Your links may be fine but mass posting them across barely related articles to promote your desired topic is not on. This is not a tourist guide or even a local guide to events and places - it is an encyclopedia. If you continue to add these links, they will be removed. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 06:03, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Dear User:Saveelephant, Thanks for wanting to improve Wikipedia! Unfortunately the websites links you added to various articles contravene our External links guidelines. Generally, we prefer to have information contained in reliable websites included in the article as text (not copy-pasted, but using your own words, else we'd have a copyright violation), and the links added to reference that text. Importantly also, the text must be neutral. Several experienced editors have already given you notice of this above. If you continue to ignore their advice, you will be shown the door. If you need help editing, just ask, here or at mine or another user's talk page.
Furthermore, your username appears to have a conflict of interest when you add links and text such as "[http://www.mtelephant2009.zoomshare.com SAVE Mount Elephant from New Quarry Threat.]"[1]. If you wish to continue to improve Wikipedia you should consider changing your username at WP:CHU. –Moondyne 06:12, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please just write about the quarry stuff neutrally, sourced to mainstream news outlets in the region instead of to activist sites. Everything should be fine if you do that. 71.141.88.54 (talk) 06:25, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

I've given you a welcome at the top of the page. Please take the time to read the linked pages as they will explain a lot of what Wikipedia is and what it isnt. It sounds as though your editing is in good faith, but you do need to learn a bit about how Wikipedia works. The IP editor immediately above gave some good advice about which sources to use to verify info. Mjroots (talk) 07:09, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
