Schools and Order of Australia honours[edit]

G'day Seqlder (I gathered that you were from SE Qld). Good update on The Age article at Fort Street HS and Sydney Boys HS. I'm looking for the actual academic journal article that goes with that newspiece because it seems like it could be an interesting read.

I've noticed that you seem to do quite a lot of work with schools. So, if you're interested, I'd like to invite you along to WikiProject: Education in Australia.

We're currently working on updating all of the infoboxes to a new template, so we would appreciate all the help we can get. But there are also a a lot of schools with very sparse information (probably including some in SE Qld). At some stage, I intend to put up a bunch of notable primary schools, so, yeah...

Hi there, I thought it was good to pick up the recent research reported in The Age. I removed the reference to the word "top" - I thought it was a little ambiguous - the schools were indeed "top" according to that criteria, but some may interpret the use of "top" as implying that criteria alone made them in some sense superior. While it's an interesting statistic, for some of the schools other factors such as size can affect the metric. eg. Wesley College, Melbourne is the largest school by enrolment in Australia, so for that reason alone you would expect it to account for a larger number of Order of Australia recipients.

With the exception of Scotch College, I think the reference to the mention in "Who's Who" is now obsolete - I believe the 2001 article was actually based on the original 1988 research, which also unhelpfully classified the schools by gender, whereas (even then but more so now) several are/were coeducational. I don't consider 32 year old research to be particularly relevant now. Hope you agree. Cheers. Murtoa (talk) 13:08, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
