Obtaining consensus[edit]

I think it should be able to do plain text (just pass text as parameters), or between two pages or revision IDs. (Or, perhaps some combination of those). It shouldn't be copied verbatim from the book; it's not a direct quote. The reference appears to validate the text, from what I can see from Google Books. Please do not remove the entire lead paragraph from an article. If you wish to improve it, please do so, but don't remove the lead. Dumplings and ravioli are highly similar; Dumpling#Italian says that "Ravioli and tortellini fit the basic definition of a dumpling". I've reverted your edit again; you not only removed the lead but added commentary to the article. Again, please feel free to improve the article — if you want to make it align more with the reference, do so! Just don't remove the entire thing. Please note that we have a civility policy; please take some time to read it, and I would appreciate it if you could stop using excessive punctuation and refrain from saying that I'm "acting like the god father of mafia". Regarding the recent COVID-19 cases template changes.[edit]

Hello. I've reverted this edit of yours thinking that it was simply pulling the data from the "COVID-19 by country" template, but then I've realized the scope of these changes is somewhat bigger. And there's a problem with that: the data being pulled from these databases is two days old for Belarus, and it's been this way for a long time - I myself considered using the John Hopkins' databases as a source for my update scripts and eventually dropped this idea because of this severe data lag. So, it appears, from now on, the numbers for Belarus (and, perhaps, some other countries) will differ between the corresponding article(s) and this table, which is a strange situation, to say the least. It's not really feasible to get each location's data individually, and OWID/JHU work perfectly fine for most. I just had a question about creating an article. An admin removed a page I tried creating because I didn't have a source when I first published it. I added the sources afterwards and I told them I did and they still deleted the article. Can I attempt to make it again but I'll add a source when I publish it? @Ricey244: It looks like you're referring to Will Witt. It was tagged for deletion because it was an unsourced biography of a living person, but was speedly deleted under criterion A7 because it did not give a credible indication of notability. It looks like you've already asked about this on the deleting administrator's talk page; I'll follow up there. I don't know what the page was like (only administrators can view deleted pages), but I think the article could be restored to draftspace, where you can work on it without fear of deletion, and submit it to be published when you're ready. @Laurenocmd: Lauren, the version you created still exists in the page history. If you have citations to add to the version, you should do so before committing it; unsourced changes in biographies of living persons are subject to immediate reversion. You can search the page history, find the version you created, edit that version, select all of the text and copy it, then edit the current version of the page and paste your text. All you need to edit articles is a basic knowledge of wikitext, and you don't even need that if you use the VisualEditor. If you make a mistake, somebody will come along and fix it later. Bot for uploading images to Commons?[edit]

I have been uploading these 11 images for months now. Around every 10 days. Takes around half an hour (timed it today). It is really tedious. I listen to the radio while doing it. That sometimes helps.

A bot could upload it every day. The Commons could delete old images now and then. There is no need to keep them on the Commons. The source pages have all the old maps. There is a timeline slider on each source map page that will pull up any map or graph for any date.

All of the above maps are OWID maps. This map is from the CDC:

There is a download link on this page:

That download link could be used. Though I can't tell what the URL is. I have been editing the map before uploading it. But it is not really necessary. Especially if I don't have to do this anymore. Plus the bot could keep it updated daily. --Timeshifter (talk) 20:49, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Darkdeath-2: I'm not sure how the book is licensed, and it's complicated either way — the quick answer is probably not. I don't think that it's public domain or compatibly licensed. If so:
  • You can use it as a reference, just don't copy words verbatim into Wikipedia.
  • You can't upload images from it or copy anything from it.

Your reversion at WP:RM/TR[edit]

You are incorrect that your request requires an administrator. Page movers can do a WP:ROUNDROBIN move using suppress redirect to accomplish the swapping of those pages and some have a page swap script that automates the whole process. Page move process[edit]

Hi there, I notice you usually use User:Tol/sandbox/temp to perform round-robin moves when publishing draft articles. I don't have page mover rights, but I know that many page movers use the WP:PAGESWAP script to semi-automate this process, so you might want to check that out (if you want to). @InfiniteNexus: Thanks for the link! I don't think this would work well for me, as I usually do round-robin moves when publishing drafts. The AfC helper script automatically does a lot (moves to mainspace, adds to Wikipedia:Articles for creation/recent, and notifies the author), and it seems impossible to automate both the AfC work and the round-robin move. Thank you for helping me to write this page, I have been constantly updating the page for the last couple of days. Today I have made some more changes in line with what you recommended. The page is about a Maltese strongman who is quite well known here in Malta and who has been performing here for the last 30 years. He is a performing strongman similar to a circus strongman who performs feats fo strength shows which are always dedicated to charitable causes. I was looking at the page of Joe Greenstein (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Greenstein) who was also a performing strongman to get some ideas for Mr. Cool's page. What else would you advise me to add or remove for it to get accepted?

@Antfarmalta: Right now, I think the main problem with this draft (Draft:Mr. Cool (Paul Grima)) is its tone. You may feel uncomfortable with a subject on Wikipedia, that is your right, however... As she is the first person (possibly in the world) but definitely for the country of New Zealand, to have her images specifically labeled as Child Pornography and BANNED via isp hash technology, she meets the definition and criteria for "Subject-specific notability guidelines". This is the first person I have been able to find, where an ISP of a country takes hash encoding via https://archive.org/details/office-of-film-and-literature-classification_800392/page/n1/mode/2up Facial, video, voice recognition and BAN anyone from the country of New Zealand from seeing these images. It may not be the best subject in the world, it may involve things that make your skin crawl, but it is certainly news worthy and notable and that's what Wikipedia is. Wikipedia is not about feelings, it is about the world. I would urge you to reconsider, because you let your personal feelings cloud your judgement... The draft has again been declined by a different reviewer. Please read the text in the grex box in the red box at the top of the draft for why it was declined, and read Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria to see how to demonstrate notability. I could add them all I want to the Office of Film and Literature Classification, the problem is, I would have another user like YOU that "doesn't feel comfortable" and decide since their is no wikipedia page for her, she isn't notable and therefore the Ban isn't notable. Just because a particular subject doesn't make YOU feel comfortable, doesn't mean it isn't notable. Category for automated tables[edit]

How can I see OWID or JHU source data?[edit]

I am a newb at much of LibreOffice Calc. I have figured out a few things.

But I haven't figured out a way to view any of the source data at Github for OWID or JHU:

You can see for yourself by installing LibreOffice, and then opening the file with Calc. It is fairly quick to download and install that office suite.

@Timeshifter: I think you might be downloading the GitHub HTML page. After you open the file in GitHub (say total_deaths_per_million.csv), click on "raw" and download the plain-text page it opens. Then try that with Excel. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 17:42, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. If I click on the csv file link it opens into a Github page with a scrolling window consisting of plain text csv. I can click on "raw" and open it in another tab consisting of nothing but the plain text csv page:

I can also right click the "raw" link and then "save link as" to finally download a genuine csv file.
That opens up fine in LibreOffice Calc as a typical spreadsheet.

You can create articles yourself now — this means that you can either create an article in mainspace (without "Draft:" before it), or you can create an article in draftspace (with "Draft:" before it) and later move it to mainspace (removing the "Draft:"). Mainspace articles are judged on quality, so if you want to work on an article for a while, I'd recommend creating it in draftspace and later moving it to mainspace. If you are confident that your article will meet Wikipedia's content policies within a few minutes of publishing it, it's fine to just start it in mainspace. Draft:Capital on Tap[edit]

Hi,

I'm trying to edit the page Capital on Tap to be good enough to be approved. I have found a range of news articles and sources, including Evening Standard and Georgia Department of Economic Development. I don't understand what else I need to do to get the page published? It also keeps saying I should declare a conflict of interest - which I already have done! I'm just trying to get this published, I'm not trying to make it like an advert.

References to Capital on Tap's website are not independent sources, and many of the other sources do not show significant coverage. The tone of the draft is not neutral: the draft seems to be mostly focused on what they can do for customers, not a neutral encyclopedia article. Sorry I didn't mean to do that! I don't understand how those sources aren't independent? They are not self-published and they are independent of the company - literally newspaper articles. The sources write directly about the subject so again how does this now show significant coverage? I have changed the tone by accepting the removal of the product info. @HollyWoodward97: The citations to newspapers are independent and reliable. You should have more of them, and should probably replace all citations to Capital on Tap's website (see Wikipedia:No original research#Primary, secondary and tertiary sources). "The company's mission" is not relevant information: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a means of promotion. I've removed more information on their products. To get the draft accepted, please write about the company neutrally and objectively, and make sure to demonstrate significant coverage in reliable sources (the easiest way to do this is to cite the most well-known and reliable sources you can find). @Jcaer: There have been multiple comments on verifiability. Every entry should have a citation to a reliable source confirming that it is an artwork by Arne Quinze. For example, "Ludmilla" needs a citation, "Saxifragales" needs a citation (preferably one that also states it is a part of "My Secret Garden"), "Stilthouses" needs a citation, and more. In addition, the citation should be repeated in the "description" column if it also supports statements in the description. While this is less important, please also clean up the reference tags. They should be placed after punctuation per the manual of style. In addition, the lead needs to be improved. "The forms are said to be mere coincidence according to Quinze's team" needs a citation. Sentences need periods. "People are completely absorbed by the orange initiating astonished reactions" should probably be removed, as it's not particularly neutral. Draft:Timeline of Alfred Milner[edit]

Please reconsider the "Timeline of Alfred Milner". I think you were overly critical in certain respects: He was a very important figure in England from 1898 to 1918, in 1918 he won World War I by uniting the Western Front at Doullens Town Hall France, on March 26, 1918. This event should be world known, but the meeting was secret at the time, and the pace of events overshadowed the meeting as Ferdinand Foch turned the war around and caused the November 11th armistice. Also, my biography of 51 sources includes 4 biographies of Alfred, cited often, as well as multiple French and English sources. In addition, this is a complete and accurate timeline, devoid of favoritism (I gave an introduction to two important chapters, but all timeline information is transferred verbatim, and footnoted (often multiple footnoted). Last, I think the ideal place for this wikipedia article will be as a complement to "Alfred Milner, 1st Viscount Milner", meaning having the page stand alone with a link to it at the top of Alfred's biography page. Viewers can read about his life, and then go into details on the Timeline page. Alfred was very important to imperialist England, standing shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Prime Minister's Salisbury, Alfred Balfour and Bonar Law, and statesmen George Curzon, Joseph Chamberlain and a youthful Winston Churchill. Please view the important pictures of the stained glass window at Doullens, the War Cabinet of 1917 (his idea), and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. Thank you for your help. @Lord Milner: Hello! I declined Draft:Timeline of Alfred Milner because I didn't think it was notable enough to have its own article, and goes into excessive detail. It also worries me that you say "all timeline information is transferred verbatim", because this sounds like it violates copyright. Finally, the format (a numbered list) is troubling, as any change would require it to be renumbered, and it could be better reworded as prose. (Also, some points are formatted as code blocks.)
