Question about the Bears seasons list[edit]

What if I were to remove all of the inactive links for the time being so all the red links are gone and then start adding them again when each of the individual season page is created? If I do that can I squeak by that set of requirements? I'm trying to set up a team on Wikipedia that can help me on the Bears team articles, and it will take some time for the articles to be written since their history is over 80 years long, and its just 2 users so far. --Happyman22 04:12, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey can you take a look at the list now...you think I met the majority yet or should I continue making article stub for each individual season? --Happyman22 03:05, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I article stubbed the whole season..taking your advice so if you would like to re-evaulate the list I have met your requirement. --Happyman22 04:03, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1996 Yukon general election[edit]

I did not create the article, it was User:MS123 who created it under an IP address. It is true that most of the information came from me. I was a candidate and I had kept some of the riding election results on a spreadsheet which I sent to him via email. I am not sure where I got it from, that was more than 10 years ago: either from reports from NDP scrutineers or from some local newspaper or CBC; but I do believe they are fairly accurate. Barnstar[edit]

The Society Barnstar
For making fourteen featured lists within little over a month and thereby comprehensively covering the complete history of Canadian elections, I hereby award you this barnstar in social sciences.
--Arctic Gnome 18:49, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've promoted Canadian election timelines to featured status; again, well done. I guess all that's left is to wait until Nunavut has another election in 2009 so that every list can get featured. Until then I'll be trying to make featured topics out of the lists of Canadian premiers and lists of Canadian parliaments. --Arctic Gnome 17:52, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus government[edit]

You might have noted that I changed a bunch of the Yukon general election articles you created to remove the mention of consensus government. There was no such thihng as consensus government prior to its creation in the Northwest Territories in the late 1970s. Elections without political parities do not necessarily mean that there is a consensus government. Prior to the advent of responsible government in the late 1970s/early 1980s, the territories were essentially colonies of the federal government, with the commissioner having all executive and most legislative powers. The article Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom for things needed to be addressed. Wikiwoohoo 19:00, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tompw,

(formatting, layout.... no need for {{navbox generic with image}})

Sorry you weren't keen on my input. I hoped it would:

  1. simplify the code;
  2. align the flag image;
  3. make the separators between links (the bullets) less conspicuous;
  4. adopt a standard look widely used and accepted elsewhere in the encyclopedia.

I guess none of these are needed – but, then again, neither is the status quo. Did any of the above contribute to your decision to revert...?  Regards, David Kernow (talk) 12:44, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In order

  1. The code was already pretty simple and straighforward. Even it wasn't, it is not like this nav-box covers a rapidly changing subject which requires ease of editing.
  2. As far as I can tell, using {{navbox generic with image}} does not change the placement of the image - it's still floating on the right.
  3. Fair point - I've replaced • with ·
  4. Yes, the {{navbox generic}} look is widely used... but so is the look of the exsisting one. More generally, {{navbox generic}} *has* to be full width, which is not needed in this case. (The current format is three lines, and takes up around half the space). Further, the words "provinces" and "territories" would have to appear in a sepearte column, which isn't needed for the nav-box to be easy to use.

In short, I feel that in this case, using {{navbox generic with image}} does nothing to improve the nav-box, and arguably makes it worse. I'd like to poitn out that I have no objection to the generic nav-box in general - it's just in this case I feel it is not the right thing to use. Tompw (talk) 10:59, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. I suppose it's all a matter of opinion, as I agree there's nothing dysfunctional or "wrong" about the template. The observation re the flag image was about its vertical alignment; sorry not to've made that clear. Thanks, though, for changing the separators; I've found bullets appear overly conspicuous on screen (especially laptop screens) and when printed. Best wishes, David (talk) 12:41, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Math rating template[edit]

I tested a few changes to the math rating template in my sandbox. This page shows the new version, and the code is here. If you don't object, I'll update the template itself soon. CMummert · talk 18:22, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The changes you made were reasonable. I changed the padding some, which may resolve your problem of having the image too close to the borders. I don't like it when there is a line break between WikiProject and Mathematics in the large version, so I added a nbsp there in the large version that seems to accomodate it. To see how a line break can happen, set your minimum font size relatively large and make the text column about 6in wide. CMummert · talk 23:01, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see what the sequences of four nbsp characters in a row are doing - they make the small template look very strange in my browser. CMummert · talk 04:28, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Featured topics boxes[edit]

Hi, I just edited Template:Featured topic box to the new layout as discussed at Wikipedia talk:Featured topics. In the process I broke your page User:Tompw/featured topics. Good afternoon, I noticed that you promoted the enlisted rate list and I have a question. I renamed the list during the nomination process from United States Navy enlisted rate insignia -> United States Navy enlisted rates but the featured list page has it listed as the former with a redirect. I was curious if this could be changed? I would do it but since I was the primary editor of the list I don't want any misconceptions of impropriety. Also since I'm already leaving you a note and you may have just not gotten around to it yet but, you didn't add the featured list indicators to the articles.Cheers — WilsBadKarma (Talk) 15:21, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:FLC archives[edit]

Sorry for messing with the archives for January and February, but I only just noticed that recent ones had been added at the bottom, and 18 months of archives to December 2006 go the other way! Communities in regions[edit]

Thanks for finishing that off. I got tired and went to sleep. I have a question though. Should it be "Communities in name" or "Communities in name region"? CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 16:32, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Now I'm not sure if I should go back and change the others. On the other hand should they be "Something in/of the name" That would fit in more with the MOS under common names as we live in "the Kitikmeot" and "Iqaluit is in the Qikiqtaaluk". CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 16:53, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Navigation template formatting[edit]

The formatting that you have changed on {{GWR Locomotives}} and {{LMS Locomotives}} templates is not quite right - the "Locomotives of" wraps to two lines, whereas on the LNER and SR templates it is on just one. math rating issues[edit]

I am concerned about the table Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Mathematics articles by quality statistics:

There is no row for B+ class articles, but there are 38 articles in Category:Bplus-Class_mathematics_articles. The count of 141 in Category:B-Class_mathematics_articles is correct, not counting the B+ articles. So it appears that B+ articles are not counted at all in the table. I am asking you because you seem to be the expert on these things. I also asked Oleg, who runs the WP 1.0 bot that updates the table.

By the way, I implemented the new math rating template this morning, and I took care of all the articles in the "unassessed" categories except for the images. CMummert · talk 15:21, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have been in touch with Oleg, and he points out that since the B+ is a project-specific rating, not on the WP 1.0 assessment scale, he doesn't want to modify the WP 1.0 bot to count B+ articles. I appreciate that argument.
I am going to put a comment on the math project talk page about this, so I will keep this comment short. CMummert · talk 16:17, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was wrong that the B+ articles aren't counted - Salix Alba already has the B+ articles appearing in the B-class category, since last September. But this fact seems to be not well documented. CMummert · talk 16:43, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Canada topic[edit]

I saw your edit summary. Just wondering is there a place on WP that says lists of Canadian territories and provinces must be in geographical order? The reason is I would like to challenge that convention. While it makes sense if you live in Canada it must be very odd for a non-Canadian to try and figure out. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 14:29, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah well, I was hoping for something like WP:geographical ordering of Canada's territories and the other bits. I agree that once you see a map of Canada it does make sense to order them that way and fortunately there aren't a lot so it can be done without causing the reader any trouble. By the way though, Template:Canada provinces map, talk about ironic. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 22:01, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

September 11, 2001 attacks:

Hi, I saw your edit to this, changing it to the old layout. I was wandering that maybe it should be like how it was, as the Premier League teamlist uses it for example, and it also lets it be merged with teams boxes e.g. like on Arsenal F.C. Thanks for adding the extremely impressive image map to List of counties in Kentucky. In the interests or readability, I moved it from the very start of the page to lower down. I restored the individual county maps, as they enable anybody reading the article to instantly see where the county there are interested in is. I also dropped the size of the image slightly to prevent horizontal scrollbars (you don't have to chnage the image maps co-ords for that). Tompw (talk) 11:35, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your change "route map - remove bits of SE main line" appears to have removed the north-board connection between Eurotunnel and the CTRL, was this intentional?
