Hi, with regards tyo your question on the UPP talk page, the nature of Wikipedia means that you cannot make a convincing argument based solely on what other articles do or do not exist; because there is nothing stopping anyone from creating any article. Plenty of articles exist that probably should not. Equally, because articles must wait for someone who is interested in the subject to notice they are missing before they are created, a lot of articles do not exist that probably should. So just pointing out that an article on a similar subject exists does not prove that the article in question should also exist; it is quite possible that the other article should also be deleted but nobody has noticed it and put it forward for deletion yet. Be that as it may, it does not change the fact that the page in question does nothing more than accurately detail the past and present of a registered party in the UK.

It is not in any way bias and does not discredit anyone or anything else.

I still fail to understand the reason for the pages deletion, what must be changed to ensure that it remains up?

Hi there, friend[edit]

I caught your page as it came up on the "new page patrol" section and hopefully made enough changes to keep the evildoers away...

The backstory is this: there are different philosophies among those who actively contribute to Wikipedia: the people who obsess about "notability" and the "inclusionists" (like myself) who favor a big-tent approach.

Sorry 'bout that, I wanted to get a couple more tweaks made to the article...

Anyway, whenever new material comes up on Wikipedia, it automatically appears on a scrolling list of "New Pages." You can find this list under the "SPECIAL PAGES" heading on your screen. Every new page is seen by some Wikipedia volunteer or another, who either approves it for inclusion or who puts up various noxious warning flags or who marks it for "Speedy Deletion." Fully 80% of the new stuff coming to Wikipedia seems to be crap of one description or another, so the New Pages section is more akin to the preparation yard of a slaughterhouse than anything, if you ask me.

Anyway, it looks like your article was deleted once before. Here are a few things to do to avoid that happening again.

1. Be sure you make things look like a Wikipedia article at a glance. These things need a lead sentence or paragraph which summarizes the content, then some sort of heading, then some sort of significant content, then a footnotes section, then one or more "Category" headings. I haven't hunted these up for you, so I leave the task for you. Look for "Labour Party" in the UK, switch over to the "Edit this" view, scroll down to the bottom, and copy-and-paste a few appropriate categories onto the bottom of the page you just started. These are pretty much the minimum components of a WP article...

2. Make sure you use at least one source and put in at least one footnote. More is better — the anal retentive sorts want to see 3 different sources that are NOT the website of the organization being discussed — but be sure to get at least one in there. You need to make sure to use the correct footnoting form. I will put a footnote here so you can see what I did and do something similar on the page you started.[1]

If you use the same source for more than one footnote, do it like this HERE THE FIRST TIME[2] and when you want to cite the same page (or website) again, you just have to do THIS.[2] You can make up anything to put in the quotations after ref name=, but you have to have SOMETHING in parentheses there.

Footnotes[edit]

  1. ^ United People's Party website. Retrieved March 30, 2010.
  2. ^ a b Joe Smith, Cornpone: The Novel. London: Macmillan, 2010; pg. 12.

3. Anyway, YES, you need to cite a source or two or five...

4. Graphics help. If you can get the United People's Party logo up there, that would help immensely. See: SPECIAL PAGES > Upload file and follow directions. Warning though: there are a whole group of additional anal retentive sorts that enjoy kicking out graphics files, so be ready for that possibility.

Outside of that, just follow the basic rules of the road: Don't make things sound like an ad, make sure there is some significant content, maintain neutrality in phrasing, and keep adding material to make the skinny little article into something beefy.

I hope this helps and good luck to you. Carrite (talk) 17:33, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, crap, a couple more tidbits: 1. The computer automatically gives people another level of clearance after a really small number of edits, like 10 or something. So visit a few pages and make a bunch of helpful small changes of grammar and such — that will eliminate an unseen red flag; 2. You might want to start a User Page, even if it's small. Screen names with no User Page show up differently on screen than those with User Pages, and I suspect that this is a red flag to the anal retentive sorts. Here is mine, for example: User:Carrite; 3. It definitely helps to put up a CONSTRUCTION banner on top of whatever new page you are launching. See what I did on your page to make one of these. Those are definitely scarecrows that make Speedy Deletion Monsters go away. best, Carrite (talk) 17:48, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article United People's Party (UK) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A very minor party. Apparently has two parish councillors, but has received no press coverage or other outside attention. Not notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fences&Windows 21:08, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
