Le Coq Sportif

Hi, I noticed you've tagged Le Coq Sportif with a clean up tag, on the talk page I have suggested reverting to a previous version, I'm a relative newbie to Wikipedia so I'd appreciate it if you let me know whether you think a revert would be the best option or not. (Simon KHFC 01:40, 22 March 2007 (UTC))

I've just done a look up on the IP that added the new text it and it was added by someone at Le Coq Sportif so that makes it NPOV. I'll let you have the fun of nuking it :) - X201 09:16, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Request for Edge Review

According to Edge search, Issue 100, which you have, contains a review for Iridion 3D. As it's currently going through an FAC and an editor raised the wish for more "notable mags" in the reception, I'd be very much obliged if you could help. Mick McCarthy

On the Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. page, you've left the comment:

Please do not change the flag to Ireland. McCarthy IS English, he only played for Ireland because his father was Irish

I thought the norm was to label footballers' (or managers') nationality was according to which country they had played for, which in this case is the Republic of Ireland. For instance, on the same article, Gary Breen (born London), Darren Potter (born Liverpool) and David Kelly (born Birmingham), are all listed with Irish flags. --RFBailey 09:14, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

RFBAiley is correct - Mick McCarthy is considered "Irish". Unless we're going to be really anal, and go back and change the nationality of every footballer to their birth nationality, irrespective of what country they played for, which in the context, seems a bit stupid. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.46.78.56 (talk) 17:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Wolves

You have made some weird "vandalism" reverts - gabor gyepes was removed as the club have released him - you added him back in - also denes rosa is no longer at cheltenham town on loan, so he needs to be placed back into the squad.

You've also reverted some additions I made to celebrity supporters ( http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wolverhampton_Wanderers_F.C.&diff=124464963&oldid=124463724 and ( http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wolverhampton_Wanderers_F.C.&diff=124465261&oldid=124464963 ) - any idea why you removed these celebrity supporters?

For the record:

Bev Bevan and John Middleton are both named as celebrity supporters in the latest official Wolves annual

Jacqui Oatley is from the area and is a well known Wolves fan

..As is Suzi Perry - EVERYBODY knows she is a Wolves fan - she was even pictured at the QPR game last Saturday!

If you could make these reverts, it would be fantastic!

Thanks! - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.46.78.56 (talk) 17:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Did you read the Article discussion page? [1]. I monitor the Wolves article whilst at work, in order to fend of the ridiculous number of Albion fans, Blues fans and just general morons who think their idea to vandalise the Wolves page is original. I made the revert because, as the article history shows, the preceding day (22 April) had had a higher than normal level of vandal activity. In the middle of various people fixing the article and removing the vandalism some vandal material had become part of the article and was being reverted back into the article when other vandalism was removed, therefore I did a revision back to a much earlier date, to the last edit by an editor with a user name, all of the vandal edits had been from IP users so I took the safest way out and reverted to a known user with a trustworthy edit history. The reason the edits were not replaced were two fold, as I mentioned I was at work and I don't think the boss would be too happy to see me editing it and secondly if the information was added by a genuine IP user, they would notice the information was missing and replace it. - X201 18:51, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation! Is it worth semi-protecting the Wolves article? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.46.78.56 (talk) 20:18, 30 April 2007 (UTC).
We wouldn't get semi-protection, the article fails to meet any of the criteria [2] to qualify for semi-protection. It would also stop you, and all other anon IP users, from editing the article. Pre-emptive protection eg before and after play-offs, is also a no-no. So next month will be fun. - X201 22:11, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for stepping in quickly. She sees to be pulling back a bit from previous edits, but it's still an attempt to influence the content of the encyclopedia without a concern for a balanced POV or appropriate weight. There's a discussion about her on WikiProject:Dentistry. Hopefully we can keep her efforts from inappropriately influencing content, then when it;s blown over someone without a conflict of interest can make sure the chewing gum issue is covered with the right amount of weight. -- Siobhan Hansa 13:06, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Xylitol

I've just reverted a revert you made to this page. As far as I can tell, you reverted someone adding a reference to an article that needs them. I didn't see any mention on the talk page, so I assume it's a mistaken edit. Let me know if you had a reason to remove the reference. Thanks! -- BillWeiss | Talk 15:53, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Blade Runner (game) article

Hello! I have written some comments at the talk page to an article which you have previously seen; would you like to add to them somewhat? In my view the article is above that of a Start class; probably at B-class for now. Is there an importance rating for videogames? We will need a couple of positive opinions in addition to mine own to get it up there. See what you think; here is the talk page. Thanks! - D-Katana 15:40, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi.

Have you got the review of Foes of Ali from Edge issue 30? I've started an article on it and would like to take a look at the review in Edge, to see if there's any useful info in it.

Vanity alert

Thanks again for your sound advice. Wasn't trying to be mischievous, merely correcting errors, but will keep nose clean in future: have no wish to generate any ill feeling. It's a problem, though, isn't it: correcting known errors in material about yourself. Have discussed this with several people this afternoon, who had similar complaints. What should one do? Wolves Irish players.

You are incorrect to say it is not factually correct. The trivia mentions Wolves having more players of Irish descent, so whether they are born in Ireland or have significant Irish ancestry which is correct of all the players mentioned. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.137.181.236 (talk) 00:36, 3 August 2007

Re: GTA IV - Britsh English

Well yes but you could also argue Rockstar North is owned by a US company. If the situation was the other way round I don't think it would be a strong enough reason to switch it to British English. John Hayestalk 12:15, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Match Magazine

You seem to keep changing statements of fact that are based on independently audited circulation figures, verified by the publishers of the magazine, the distributors and the independent auditing authority. All data on sales figures of all British magazines is readily available to members of the Audit Bureau Of Circulation via the ABC website. If you cross reference the sales patterns of all British football magazines, it is quite apparent that the following statement is correct: "This (1995] not only marked the highest point in the magazine's sales history, but the high watermark of the British football magazine market in the 1990s".

Just because there is no single link that takes you to a page containing all this information does not make the statement untrue - if such a link existed, there would be no need for Wikipedia. If you take the time to research the facts behind the statement via the linked ABC website, as I have done, it is very easy to see that the statement is in fact correct.

If you would like the Audit Bureau Of Circulation's year by year sales patterns published here for every British football magazine, it is data that is very easy to retrieve via the ABC website, but too in-depth for inclusion in a brief article on just one magazine. Maybe a more detailed article on the British football magazine market and its fluctuating sales trends might help to solve this problem, if anyone wants to take on the challenge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Frost79 (talkcontribs) 02:41, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

I have only removed a reference to which a vast percentage of Wikipedia users have no access and is therefore useless. The whole point of having citations is so that they can be checked by people reading the article to check that it is valid information, I am not a member of ABC therefore I that statement could be a total fabrication because I have no way of checking it. WP:EXTERNAL states that sites that require membership should be avoided and I can see no reason why this is a different case. Of course it doesn't make the statement untrue but that link makes it uncheckable. I have taken the time to research the facts via the linked ABC website and I get the following message.

User not recognised Trend data is only made available to ABC members and subscribers on this website. Our system has not identified you as either an ABC member or subscriber.

It's only "easy to see" if you are subscribed to ABC.

All we want is an article that is verifiable and not an advert for Match and it's publishers. I notice you've only got edits on this one article. I'm hoping you don't work for the publishers as well. Seeing as you have ABC membership you're probably a member of the publishing world in some way. - X201 13:16, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Magazine request

Hey I was looking into reviews for 1080° Snowboarding, and after discussing possibilities with Hahnchen, he mentioned that you have a review I might need. The game was released in February (JP), April (NA) and November (PAL) of 1998, so I don't know where that would fall in with the magazine, but if you have any reviews or previews of it, that would be helpful.--CM (talk) 22:19, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Is that a no?--CM (talk) 22:15, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
No, just proof of what I warned you might happen on your talk page on the 4th of December. - X201 (talk) 22:50, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh my bad, the post got lost in that thread. It'd probably be best to wait until after the holidays anyway; I just thought you never got back to me (which was a oversight on my part).--CM (talk) 22:55, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks man, I owe you one. I copied it to my sandbox in case you want space for other reviews, but it has been fully integrated into the article already anyway. Thanks again.--CM (talk) 15:34, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Easy, copy and paste it on to the article discussion page. Or scan it and upload the image.
Sarcasm on my part?, No. You see thousands of people pass through here claiming to know that X is going to be in Director Y's new movie or that Company A is going to buy company B. Putting it in Wikipedia without proof would just be the equivalent of "some bloke down the pub told me..." - X201 (talk) 16:15, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Request for a magazine interview

Hi, I am sourcing for information on Tomonobu Itagaki and found from the The Magazines Project you have a copy of Edge 113 (August 2002) in which they interviewed him. Could I trouble you to relay the contents of that interview to me? Jappalang (talk) 20:59, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I have heard from Chinese forums Itagaki had revealed (or the interviewer has dug up) personal information (birthplace, family life, interests, etc) in an interview several years ago. This is the information I am most interested in. Other infomation I am interested in would be his work ethics (refer to the wiki on him). Information for use of the cite journal templates would be appreciated. Thank you! Jappalang (talk) 23:35, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

No, I wasn't watching the news. But I found the cite on the BBC site. And yes, it's a strangely outdated title, but I still think the film will be good. Camille offers Bond the "quantum of solace" from Vesper's death, I guess. I would have thought they'd go with Property of a Lady. Alientraveller (talk) 13:45, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

It sounds like it's twenty-seconds long. WP:MOSNUM states we can use "22nd" as it doesn't sound ambigious. Alientraveller (talk) 15:39, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

To quote
"*The numeral and the spelled-out number can have different meanings, as in these two phrases
    • Every number except one, in which one refers to the number of exceptions (for example, the one exception could be the number 42), although rephrasing to avoid the ambiguity would be better; and
    • Every number except 1, in which the specific number 1 is the exception (this usage is not ambiguous)." Alientraveller (talk) 15:50, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
