Block review[edit]

Can you please comment on an unblock request at User talk:Ultramegasuperstar? Stifle (talk) 15:06, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, his unblock template includes this line only: "sockpuppets are not illegal".
Stifle himself put a template on Bollywood-Turk (talk · contribs)'s userpage that he may be his sockpuppet, after the latter started another ANI discussion on you. I liked the discussion, all the editors obviously defended you and now they all suspect he is a sock of the one you blocked today. I strongly suspect Bollywood-Turk is a sock of "91..." mainly because they do the same edits and now also on the Bollywood article as well, which is incredible.
What puts me in a complete shock is that now all the users are here reverting him (he already can use his account to edit semiprotected pages). And I was the one who got blocked for this (when the other guy is a sock, as we see now), and my edits were based on sources, consensus and general view.
Bln, I also lost my rollback, which I always used fairly and never misused it or violated its terms of use (I always use the edit summary in cases that are not vandalism) by the blocking admin. Could I get it back? ShahidTalk2me 15:36, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In the edit war you were blocked over, you made a few reverts with edit summaries and then later made the same revert several time with rollback. If that's not an inappropriate use of rollback, I don't know what is. Anyway, YM -- I'm declining Ultramegasuperstar's request but please comment anyway, I suspect another will be coming. Mangojuicetalk 14:23, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Nishkid found some more socks and blocked bollywood-Turk, so there's your second confirmation. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:12, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey bln. I repeat, I always used it fairly and never misused it or violated its terms of use. And this time, as you yourself said, I used the edit summary, and only then did I start rollbacking him. So let me first say that I was first of all reverting someone who is a sockpuppet, and secondly, he reverted my edits, saying they are vandalism. So what else should I do if not rollback him?
Another thing is, this edit was against consensus, and was easily an act of vandalism. And now Nishkid reverted the same edit made by Bollywood-Turk, rollbacking him. Should his rollback also be taken??
So was it fair to do it, Bln? And does it mean I won't get my rollback again? ShahidTalk2me 09:14, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well admins can't have their rollback taken because it is part of the package. What does Nishkid think of you having rollback. Personally, I don't mind, it doesn't do anything fast that popups can't do. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:48, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No Bln Nishkid has nothing to do with that. It was the admin who blocked me that took it away, while what I was doing is reverting someone who called my edits vandalism, who is now blocked for sockpuppetry, who was reverted in the same way by an admin in the same kind of edit.
I always use(d) the rollback fairly for vandalism revert only, otherwise I always use the edit summary. I'm fully aware of its terms of use, and adhere to them always. In this case, the blocking admin thought it was an ordinary edit war while the other user's edits were sneaky vandalism, against consensus, in addition to him being a sock and calling my own edits vandalism. So wasn't it right to rollback him? ShahidTalk2me 16:24, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would support Shshsh getting his rollback again, if were sure he would obey WP:3RR. Many of his comments seem to offer excuses for why he doesn't have to obey 3RR because the other guy is actually wrong. To me, this appears to be a serious misunderstanding. EdJohnston (talk) 19:19, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You shouldn't revert the guy with machine reverts without summary unless it is obvious vandalism or silliness, but yes, admins are above the law in that regardm, because nobody is going to desysop them for that as rollback only speeds it up. But Nishkid says he doesn't mind you having it back either. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:56, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It has nothing to do with 3RR, and I'm fully aware of 3RR, and in fact don't have any reason to do it again. Obviously I feel offended that I was treated like a vandal when all I was doing was for the sake of the article in question and WP itself. I was blocked twice in one month, my unblock request was rejected and an admin took my rollback away.
And I know the terms of use of a rollback, and if you go through my contribs, you'll see that I never violated them. In this case, as you said, it was silliness.
So if Nishkid does not have any problems, can I get it back? ShahidTalk2me 06:30, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nipponese Dog Calvero sockpuppets[edit]

Please sniff out User:阮高治, User:Ben19870923, User:潘佩珠是越南國父 and other new sockpuppets of Nipponese Dog Calvero. Thanks. DHN (talk) 15:46, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I take it his job is to add Chinese patter everywhere. Nishkid has already fixed him up this time. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:12, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi mate, while making some updates on William Ellis Newton during its GAN review, I came across this little nugget (pun very seriously intended) Although I've already got Miller's name into the article once, I think the last bit in here about him going into bat against the VRC on his friend's behalf is defintely worth putting in. That said, I'd prefer to cross-ref with another source that includes the date this took place - can you help? If not, I'll still use it but any further detail would be even better... Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 09:11, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I can, I emailed you so you can reply and I can send you the book scans. I believe it was in 1997, the book didn't say so explicitly but one of the list of articles in reflist had an article on April 2 1997, Newton's race was on Anzac Day. The passage in the book also came directly after Miller complaining about Bradman being on the stamp instead of Newton, which was also in 1997, according to another newspaper article listed in the back of the book. Vietnam[edit]

I've begun adding referenced data to the articles. I have also created district locator maps of one province see Đức Trọng District for instance. However if I am to create maps from each province I will need to get hold of some maps of the provinces on the web where I can work out what is what with the districts. With a bit of effort we can at least give these articles some content, I would be grateful if you do make an effort too to help me. I've asked User:Fritzpoll if he can use a bot to make all of the articles consistent with referenced data and infoboxes. I'd be grateful if you also spoke to him about it and any bot approval that may be needed for the task.

If we could get every article up to An Phú District level of detail this would be great. We sure need more than one or two people working on them though. A lot of WP:Vietnam members really are inactive on here arne't they, most are just those who stopped by a year or two ago. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:27, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:38, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well basically all the maps down to the commune maps can be seen here at this census website. I had a gmail chat with DHN which I can forward with some details on how to coordinate the bot. The commune stats are definitely there, area and popn for each commune - unfortunately not already in a table format. Genghiskhan (talk · contribs) likes to create lots of articles on geog settlements on vi.wiki (he usually doesn't bother logging in there, but most of the geo articles on vi are by him) and he can write English as well although he spends less time here nowadays. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:12, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the gmail chat transcript. He agreed for me to print it. I cut out his real name though. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:12, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • me: do you know where all the population data for the communes used on vi.wiki comes from
  • DHN: not sure

10:48 AM if you want an authorative source, use the gov't website

 the gis application
  • me: that interactive map doesn't seem to have commune level stats
 does it
it isn't working for me atm
  • DHN: last time I checked it does

10:49 AM me: can you look at it for me

it basically doesn't work on mine
 takes ages anyway
  • DHN: seems really slow

10:51 AM see the "lop truy cap" dropdown box?

 choose Phuong/Xa

10:52 AM seems to work fine

it highlights the commune in the province and provide demographic info
 choose a province first
  • 10:56 AM me: did that
set it to phuong but I get the pictures of districts
  • 10:57 AM DHN: click somewhere in the map
  • 10:58 AM me: with the "i" choice?
 mode
  • DHN: yes
  • 10:59 AM me: it works now
  • DHN: when I select Phuong/xa mode, I see each commune colored differently in the map
me: wonder why it didnt last onth
all the data in a list
  • DHN: dont' think so, seems to be just an installer for the Java VM

11:05 AM you can also use the search function to find all the communes without having to click on each on the map 11:06 AM if you leave it blank it'll list all the communes 11:08 AM me: oh ok

I still have to click on all of them 1 by 1 though
  • DHN: yeah

11:09 AM me: it's still faster though

  • DHN: you can get someone to write a screenscraper to get all the info into a data file
maybe if I spend some time on it I might be able to do it

11:10 AM but it'll be faster if you can find a perl coder to help you

 and then it does?
  • DHN: no

11:26 AM only some numbers work

that's why if you write a perl program to do that, you'd be able to parse all the info in no time
  • 11:29 AM me: do you mind if I pass this discussion on to Blofeld and his bot consultant?
  • DHN: yeah

11:30 AM go ahead

  • me: on wiki?
I can cut the real name if you want
  • DHN: go ahead
me: ok
  • DHN: PROVINCENAME is the name of the province in lowercase, with no space

11:31 AM example of a correct page: http://gis.chinhphu.vn/MoreInformation.asp?pLayerId=angiang_pxa&pObjectId=2846

all the pages have the same format
just need to parse each field

11:33 AM but you can't just use any number. If the number doesn't work, it will give you a different type of page. We just ignore those pages.

So by going into phuong/xa mode, and by searching with a blank, it will list all the communes and you can go trhough and click to expand each of them without moving the map, which is really slow. However, DHN thinks a computer can autoextract them somehow. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:12, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. When I access that site though it seems extremely low and nothing seems to load. It would indeed be best done by a bot to auto-generate a list and to even start the articles. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:00, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you and DHN could somehow compile a list of communes with any population area data I'd evne be willing to start them all manually. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:07, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A bot would be wonderful for this sort of information; the trouble with doing it manually would be that it's easy to miss something, I fear. Although I'm probably not the best person to ask about bots in the first place...my technological know-how is below nil. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 16:40, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Did you talk to Fritzpoll? It's pretty slow here? Or Mr Accountable if his machine is fast. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:48, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did speak to Fritzpoll. After some effort he did say "I'll look into it". So we'll wait and see if anything comes of it. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:27, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nangparbat[edit]

This user 86.156.208.244 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) appears to be a sockpuppet of Nangparbat. can you look into it. thanx--Wikireader41 (talk) 16:39, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is, from the details sheeet on his userpage. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 02:12, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This user you blocked in January has requested unblocking. While the block you issued seems to be earned, any further comments would be appreciated. Toddst1 (talk) 21:03, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

socks?[edit]

Issue is if Nadars of Tamil Nadu are heirs to the old Pandyas? User:Ravichandar84 and I are not convinced of the sources. Bake1987 (talk · contribs · count) was the editor whom we had disagreements with.

During the course of our conversation, he issues a threat here and claims it is his last edit, I shall take this issue to the tamil nadu police and see that this article is deleted for good. And ofcourse find out the real identity of people like docku who have consistently disturbed the reputation of the nadars. This shall be my last edit.

If you out Docku, you'll get banned. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 00:58, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
