OriginalVenus and Mars (c. 1845); The goddess of love, Venus, has exhausted her lover, the god of war, Mars. She, still awake, watches him, exhausted and asleep and stripped of his armour and weapons: love conquers all. So tired is he, that the satyrs haver stolen his lance – and no explanation is needed as to the loss of his second phallic weapon!
