This page is meant to serve as the central planning page for future events to be held by the local community of Wikipedia editors in Adelaide.

It is anticipated that these events will be held on a regular basis, usually on the fourth Wednesday of each month, and will include social events, talks by guest speakers, and edit-a-thons.

We encourage participation by people who are new to editing Wikipedia, and most meetings will be held at a computer suite at UniSA's City West campus where experienced editors can offer guidance.

Preliminary discussions / Noticeboard[edit]

Port Adelaide - Meetup and Edit-a-thon[edit]

Yesterday I had a chat with Kevin Jones, Director of the SA Maritime Museum, about our recent WP meetings and proposed July edit-a-thon. He is willing to host a meeting at the SAMM in the near future, and to give a talk - I suggested that he look at the WP articles on Port Adelaide and related topics, and give us his views on how these could be improved. (At present the SAMM doesn't have its own article, its only got a section in the one on Port Adelaide.) We could then follow this up with another edit-a-thon on the theme of "Port Adelaide". If both of these were advertised though existing networks (Port Adelaide Library local history librarian, Port Adelaide Historical Society, Port of Adelaide Branch of the National Trust, etc.), we could attract some new editors.

This is in addition to the other leads I will be following up for speakers at meetings in the city. Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 03:37, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

With guest speakers for June and July now organised, I suggest that we wait until after we've had the experience of the July Edit-a-thon, so that we can then discuss how often we want to run these particular events, in terms of effort, logistics, etc. Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 03:51, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Last night I attended the AGM of the Port Adelaide Historical Society where the Port Adelaide Library local history librarian, Meredith Blundell, gave a talk on the library's brand-new Local History photos Flickr page and web application. She is keen to learn more about how we are progressing with our local Meetups, and may be able to come to Meetup 10 next week. The Port Adelaide Library would also be a good place to hold a local edit-a-thon. Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 02:31, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Following Darren Peacock's talk last month, there is growing interest in setting up a semantic media wiki for Port Adelaide, with a possible public event / launch in October - there is scope for AWUG members to assist. Bahudhara (talk) 07:28, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Further speakers on heritage issues[edit]

At Meetup 11 it was suggested that further speakers on the topic could come from the UniSA Architecture Department - Bilby to follow up, or the Australian Institute of Architects - Dr Peacock could assist with an introduction, as he knows the SA Chapter president.

Speakers on coastal / marine articles[edit]
