Even at 2.14 m, Erden is sometimes underestimated defensively because people don’t take into account his 2.25 m wingspan. With his long arms and quick feet, he is a blanket in the paint, reaching every shot and disrupting the offense at every turn. The 21-year-old is also a good rebounder and despite having a lean body has been dubbed the “Great Wall of Turkey”. Erden’s problem tends to be that he is a little too laid back and becomes content with what he has already achieved. But the great basketball mind of coach Aydın Örs has succeeded in lighting a fire under Erden and in the last three months of the domestic season, Erden took over for Fenerbahçe Ülker. He started every game and even more amazingly he seemed passionate in the cause. Though still a project on offense, if coach Bogdan Tanjević can keep the fire burning there is no limit as to what Erden can do.
