I was working at the label at the time and there were no financial troubles that would have led to a Bowie album being shelved. EMI was a multinational corporation, it would not shelve an album by Bowie for corporate financial reasons, which is what the origianl edit implies. It may have shelved it because the advance the album triggered was too large given the expected sales. But that is a specific P&L issue. undo
