The Lord of Mann or Lord of Man (Manx: Chiarn Vanninagh) is the head of state of the Isle of Man. The current Lord of Mann is Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (Manx: Ben-Rein Ealisaid II dy Reeriaght Unnaneyssit).

The title is now Lord of Mann regardless of sex. However, during her reign Queen Victoria was styled as Lady of Man.^[1]

The formal Latin style is [Dominus Manniae] Error: {{Lang}}: text has italic markup (help).

The title is not correctly used on its own. The title of Lord of Mann (and previously, King of Mann) has existed in a position of feudality beneath the Crown of the United Kingdom (before 1801, Great Britain; before 1707, England), and is not fully sovereign except by virtue of personal union with the Crown. For this reason, the form of Loyal Toast used on Man is The Queen, Lord of Mann.

Revestment

In 1765, Charlotte Murray, 8th Baroness Strange sold the suzerainty of the island to the British government for £70,000 and the reigning Monarch of the United Kingdom became the Lord of Mann.

While unbroken succession in the male line of the Stanleys was terminated with Ferdinand; William Stanley, 6th Earl of Derby, reclaimed the Isle of Man by 1609. There is a claimant, David Drew Howe, to the rights as the de jure titular King of the Isle of Man and the Stanley royal crown based on at least two issues. One being that the title of King was forfeited by Thomas IIIwithout basis and never sold to Great Britain and two, claiming the revestment was settled under duress by the Stanley heirs. This Act gave control of the Island back to Sovereign of Great Britain where it rests to date with the Queen. Mr. Howe's claim, however, provides no legal evidence of the sort admissable in either U.S. courts, U.K. courts, or Manx courts, as to his lineage. There is a petition by citizens of the Isle of Mann to ban him from using the title "King of Mann," and for the official government of the Isle of Mann to confirm he has no legal or "royal" claim on the Island. Mr. Howe owns an auto glass repair franchise in Frederick, Maryland, and is known to have claimed in the past to be a Jue-Jitsu expert and an American Army commando.
