Nacella macquariensis is a southern, cold-water species of limpet, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Patellidae, the true limpets.
Distribution
This true limpet is endemic to Australia. It is found around Australia's sub-Antarctic Macquarie and Heard islands.
Shell description
The shell is narrowly ovate, variable in height, and in the number of radial ribs, which are 30 to 36 broadly rounded corrugations, their number increasing by interpolation according to the size of the shell. The whole surface is crowded with fine, crisp, undulating growth lamella.
The external shell coloration is chestnut-brownish, reddish at the apex. The interior is strongly rayed in bronzy reddish-brown. There is a well marked muscle attachment mark on the underside of the shell, variously clouded with reddish-brown and areas of whitish callus.
The maximum shell length is 62 mm, width 50 mm, and height 33 mm.
