Sebacoyl chloride (or sebacoyl dichloride) is a di-acyl chloride, with formula C10H16Cl2O2.

It is a hazardous chemical that evolves HCl when reacted with water. It should be handled with full protection under a fume hood.

Uses

Sebacoyl chloride can be reacted with hexamethylene diamine, another toxic chemical, to form a safe product, nylon-6,10.

Characteristics

Sebacoyl chloride is a light-yellow liquid with a pungent odor, soluble in hydrocarbons and ethers. Sebacoyl chloride is highly corrosive and reacts with water in the atmosphere, and is preferably handled and stored under inert gas, such as argon or nitrogen. Proper personal protective equipment should be used at all times. Exposure can cause damage via inhalation or skin contact.
