Amami (奄美市, Amami-shi) is a city located on Amami Ōshima in Kagoshima, Japan.

The city was formed on March 20, 2006 from the merger of the city of Naze with the town of Kasari and the village of Sumiyo.

As of January 2008, the city has an estimated population of 48,116 and a density of 157 persons per km². The total area is 306.20 km².
