Thank you!
Well .... where to start?
I just want to thank everyone - I can't possibly reply to everybody :) - for being so loving and supportive over the last few days. I said what I had to say and left for a few days, just to get some breathing space. I'd actually been thinking seriously about leaving over the last few weeks, as the unwanted attentions from certain people and the pressures of the current ArbCom case were beginning to wear me down. I truly wasn't expecting the kind of responses that came flooding in. I really don't know what to say. I've archived everything, my original message and all your responses, as well as a message to others at the top, at User:Alison/Depression. As I said, I hope others in a similar situation can read this, understand it, and take some comfort from it all.
Love you all, friends :)
PS: I guess I'd better get back to work, then! WP:RPP is calling out to me :)
PPS: Amit, it's lovely to see you back on here, too, with job intact!
From one to another
I've recently read it suggested that you might have felt that I "must be annoyed at (you) for picking up the Alison nick on enwiki". Could I just say you were fully welcome to it! Indeed, I didn't even look for it as 'AlisonW' is what I have used all over the place for many years as I know so so many Alison's IRL so use the W at all times - in addition to a 'nom de plume' which, of course, you know about as do many others (Kato is right, it isn't a 'secret' per se, I just try to not the two get written on the same webpage together) and is all quite above board, albeit reading the comments is providing me with a lot of amusement at the moment ;-P Nor, btw, will SUL annoy me at all and I'd happy to let you have meta:User:Alison on meta: right now if you would like it (and ask nicely) as at the time I registered that protective nick you weren't using User:Alison yourself and protection is a good thing™ (unlike meta:User:Alison is a douchebag lol). Keep up the good work. --AlisonW (talk) 23:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks, Lawrence. Looks like Rlevse, the clerk, has now blocked him for 31 hours. Good call, IMO - Alison ❤ 21:35, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
The ridiculous blocks
- Before you jump in to block me again look at this from the "British isles" name debate:
- And Coast? Follow the link, why don't you? "Britain" is a political word - we must be careful not to enforce it (that's why 'land masses' have their own names - becasue they are neutral and constant). You seem to be enforcing the loaded use of Britain over the home nations onto other people, just so you can remove yourself from a recognised benign term that you simply don't want anyone to use. A bit selfish don't you think? And a bit crazy too - "British Isles" is clearly the technical term of use. (RE the Contents of my 2005 World Atlas: "British Isles 1:4 400 000"!)--Matt Lewis (talk) 22:11, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- Now - if people think they can claim the genocidal British Occupation was "benign" can you explain why it isn't permitted to explain why this is bull on this wonderful rules-based Wiki? (naturally, the idea of pro-Anglo bias plays no part in this in the minds of our wonderful Admins).Sarah777 (talk) 22:31, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

- Hehehe :) Thanks tons for looking at that. The IP addresses may have been a stretch in a couple of cases, but at least one of them had a pejorative edit identical to one made by one of the registered accounts, and another one fixed a spelling error in that edit, so I reported them as well. In case you were wondering, I wasn't trying to fish here - there were quite a few IPs I didn't report because the edits seemed unrelated. Also, thanks for picking up User:MDoung - it was on my "uncertain" list, so I had decided not to include it. --DachannienTalkContrib 07:20, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

checkuser request case LakeOswego
Sorry to annoy you again with that. My concern was, that according to WP:RFCU, "Vote fraud where the possible sockpuppet votes do not affect the outcome of the vote" is an "unacceptable request". I did not participate in "blatant vandalism" either. Maybe there was a good reason for checkuser, as you indicate. I really don't need to know all the details, and my goal is not to cry out that some rule has been broken (if that's the case). But I need to know two things:
- If I can trust that you handle these things with the necessary care
- Does anybody know my IP now, and if so, who? Or does this information get deleted automatically, or never revealed at all?
Thanks for your time to answer this. FeelFreeToBe (talk) 04:29, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well, yes, the checkuser was handled according to policy. I have seen your IP address and nobody else. Truth be known, I've forgotten it :) Point is this; per the privacy policy, I am expressly forbidden from revealing it to anyone else except under strict conditions. Yes, you can trust me to handle it with absolute care - only I have seen the address. It's in the logs, though, that a check was made, but there's no explicit link of an IP address with your username - Alison ❤ 04:34, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Unblocking Sarah777
Hell no. If people are supporting unblocking an editor who colourfully said "get off my talk page you twat", with a history of, as you put it, "gross incivility", it just show how much Wikipedia has gone into the toilet. That, and I don't think she'll follow the terms of the deal anyway. Will (talk) 03:19, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- I've heard far worse than that around here from admins that are still active. Sarah is massively frustrated right now with a lot of things on WP. Cut her a little slack here - she's a good contributor who needs to work through some stuff - Alison ❤ 03:26, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- At the very least, I think an unblock is inappropriate. Let it fizzle out. Will (talk) 03:37, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
The examples you give are of unacceptable conduct. We don't set standards by the worst things on wiki. Tyrenius (talk) 04:15, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed, but let's maintain some semblance of a level playing field here. How can we censure someone when someone else is given carte blanche to do and say what they like. She's already got a problem with admins, in fairness - Alison ❤ 04:17, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- I am quite prepared to endorse any measures taken against others who act in a similar way. Wiki would be a more pleasant place for all as a result. Tyrenius (talk) 04:38, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

You may want to look-in on this request. I rather expect that there will be some overlap with the impersonators of me from the Grawp case; i.e. this may be more of one of the groups you saw. Cheers, Jack Merridew 09:13, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

- It's not an acceptable practice, no. But the privacy policy states that IP address and geolocating info should really only be released where there's a strong need (clause 5), and I really don't see us being at that threshold yet - Alison ❤ 23:31, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi!
Hi Alison. I know you are very busy and despite that do an awful lot of work here and I really respect that and appreciate it like I know most others here do as well. A perfect 10 from the Danish judge! However, when you get the time to do this would you please look at this? I have private evidence that I'm not sure what to with nor am I sure that it is really needed but as you know from experience with this guy we need to uncover as much as we can early on so we aren't stuck with a list of 100 accounts and IP's to check in one go again. This guy is known to produce 10-15 accounts in one hour on different IP's when he gets upset. Thanks and once again thank you for all your hard work that I know often carries no reward. EconomicsGuy (talk) 07:13, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Done - I'd actually been working this case from earlier on so it didn't take too long to finish up. Interesting result, too - Alison ❤ 07:38, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Checkusah Green Green
Alison, I think you are doing a great job with checkuser (sorry if I said this before). Checkuser really is a difficult and stressful job, because the IP can be from the same provider and have different ending (i.e. 45.65.34.03 versus 45.65.54.37 [sample IPs]). Anyway, this message is in green, b/c I will be attempting to take a month long break in March. So, this is a "Happy St. Patrick's Day Message" in combination, too.
Later, and don't get too drunk liek teh kitteh! :-P

There's every four years in theory just like normal leap years, but they don't always happen at four year intervals. AN/I thread and checkuser results
Hi Alison. In response to your checkuser findings at this AN/I thread, I blocked a number of named accounts, but now I'm worried that I misinterpreted your statement. When you have a minute, would you mind looking at the thread? I assumed that your confirmation applied to all named editors, including Gregg Potts (talk · contribs), but on reflection he's claiming to be framed and I wanted to double-check which accounts, exactly, were tied by technical evidence so I don't make (or persist in making) a horrible mistake. Thanks - MastCell Talk 17:19, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Really quick, MastCell (as I just woke up), the checkuser findings explicitly did not include Gregg Potts (talk · contribs) and he is quite Unrelated to the other accounts - Alison ❤ 17:25, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
