Christopher C. DeMuth (born August 5, 1946, in Kenilworth, Ill.[1]) is an American lawyer. He has been the president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a conservative think tank, since 1986. He has announced that he will step down as president in 2008.[2] DeMuth is widely credited with reviving AEI's fortunes after its near-bankruptcy in 1986 and leading the institute to new heights of influence and growth. Before joining AEI, DeMuth worked on regulatory issues in the Ronald Reagan administration.

DeMuth supported the publication of Dinesh D'Souza's controversial book The End of Racism but fiercely denounced the New Century Foundation annual conferences run by Jared Taylor. Charles Murray, another fellow of the AEI, coauthored another controversial book that dealt with race, The Bell Curve during the period D'Souza published his book and the New Century Foundation began featuring conferences.
