Userspace
Hi, I've noticed all of the problems surrounding List of British Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank and wanted to suggest something for the future: when you create a new article and aren't able to complete it immediately then the best option is to complete it in "userspace". This is a page that operates as an extension of your page and talk page: as such other users should not interfere with it without asking first and information you put there is not subject to the rules of WP:V, WP:RS etc (although WP:BLP still applies). You are free to work on this for as long as you like without interference and leave personal notes for its future development (although there is nothing to stop someone else creating the same article while you are still working on your version) and when the article is ready you can move it to userspace, where anyone can edit it. You can also copy and paste material currently in an article to your userspace to work on it there, and move it back when ready, although its advisable to leave messages for other editors about your intentions when you do.

I hope that when you get back from you block you continue to work in this area, confining personal observations and commentary on developing articles to a userpage like User:Medcroft/Sandbox.

Welcome to Wikipedia

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. You may want to take a look at the welcome page, tutorial, and stylebook, avoiding common mistakes and Wikipedia is not pages.

I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers such as yourself:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Sources for GWR 4073 Class 5029 Nunney Castle

Hello, good work on GWR 4073 Class 5029 Nunney Castle, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. From what websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to GWR 4073 Class 5029 Nunney Castle? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET if you wish to review some of the different citation methods. Thanks!  BRIAN0918  00:12, 5 December 2005 (UTC) [reply]

Provided references as requested. Medcroft 17:20, 26 December 2005

Famous Photos from WW2

With regards to your objection, the deletion proposal was not made because of PC reasons, but rather becausethe creator of the article appears to be using Wikipedia to host files for use in a highschool class, which is not what Wikipedia is for. If you still object to the deletion then you may remove the tag. Fightindaman 23:13, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Famous Photos from WW2

Hello Fightindaman, I am sorry if I have mistakenly accused you of being PC - it just looked like it. Nevertheless, I do not think that these images are a harm to anyone, and even if published for use within an educational environment, as far as I can make out, they do not infringe wikipedia's T&C. Please respond if you think that I am wrong - having a little problem myself at the moment over a very small and little known castle in England! Regards Medcroft 23:32, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS Have removed the tag - but please lets not row about it!

Accusing EGGS of vandalism

When another user adds a cleanup tag to your article, you don't need to take it personally; it's just a reminder of how an article can be improved. There's no reason to accuse an honest editor of the serious crime of vandalism. In the future, please try to adopt a more constructive attitude. Thanks, Melchoir 04:56, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Melchoir, Last night we were busy tidying up references to GWR Castle Class locomotives - before we had finished on the first of three that we were working on - he leapt in with a "confusing" tag and also on the two subsequent entries. I also note that he has not intervened in any other references to Castle Class locomotives (of which there are many!) It seems to us that this chap has an adversion to anything with which he feels he has an issue. We therfore feel that "vandalism" is the appropriate term. This chap has clearly lost the plot - hence our position on this. With our very best wishes. Medcroft 02:29, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Medcroft, I have reverted your change to List of GWR 4073 Class locomotives. I'm afraid that a "personal sighting" does not count as a reliable source for the purpose of a Wikipedia article. We require that information in articles can be verified by readers and since readers will not always be able to check with you, we cannot accept your own testimony as a source. Thanks for understanding, Gwernol 20:25, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Medcroft. Please note that I'm not at all saying that you're personal account is in any way wrong or untruthful. But readers can't verify it. How does a reader 100 years from now verify the facts from you? How does a reader today? If we allowed personal experience to be the basis for the facts included in Wikipedia articles, we would have to allow anything that anyone said into the record. Many people are, sadly, not as honest as you. If our standard was "its true because I say so", we'd have an encyclopedia full of rumors, lies and jokes, and no-one would use it. To prevent this, we hold all articles to the standard of verifiability we have developed, which boils down to: we include information that has already been published in independent sources. So if your recollections are accepted into a journal, book or newspaper, they can be used as a basis for a Wikipedia article. While this standard may not be perfect, it is a great deal better than nothing. I hope you understand. Thanks, Gwernol 12:00, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

British Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank

Hi, Please don't add your personal observations and comments to this article. Under the policies Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:No original research all material included in articles must be supported by a published source and comments such as "I do not know if she was ever deployed for that operation." and "I last saw this ship decommissioned and alongside at Gun Wharf in 1977. Someone had stolen the ship's bell!" are not suitable for encyclopedic articles. Thanks, Nick-D (talk) 00:55, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - try this! http://www.britains-smallwars.com/suez/untis.html Regards Medcroft 20:27, 05 May 2009 (BST)

Medcroft, please understand that these constant reversions to include material based on your own observations are not acceptable. The website that you link to does not even support your comments like "I do not know if she was ever deployed for that operation." and "I last saw this ship decommissioned and alongside at Gun Wharf in 1977. Someone had stolen the ship's bell!" Readers of the encyclopaedia will not be expecting this conversational tone, they will not know who is making these observations, and they will not know with what authority you are speaking. A conversational style that may be suitable for personal websites like the one you link to is not suitable here. Please take the time to read through the guidelines Nick-D has linked you to, as currently your edits are going against some of the core principles we all have to abide by on wikipedia. But also please be careful with your edit summaries. We have a host of guidelines such as Wikipedia:No Personal Attacks and Wikipedia:Civility that govern our interactions with other users, and calling other users pedants may land you in further trouble. Benea (talk) 23:52, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Medcroft, another user has made the suggestion that you add these comments to the talkpage of the article. Here people may see and track down relevant sources for the article, and the conversational tone that you have been notified about before will not be an issue. But please do not continue to add this to the main article space. Benea (talk) 01:40, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Medcroft, regarding this edit with an edit summary reading "Once again - this is my project. A minor subject. I started it. Unless you can make a contructive and informed contribution - please leave it alone!", please read Wikipedia:Ownership of articles. -- Boracay Bill (talk) 03:09, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to the page List of British Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, please ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thank you. Alansohn (talk) 02:35, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to the page List of British Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank. Such edits constitute vandalism and are reverted. Please do not continue to make unconstructive edits to pages; use the sandbox for testing. Thank you. Alansohn (talk) 02:48, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't add your personal comments to articles as you have at List of British Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank. If they belong anywhere, they belong on the article's talk page. Alansohn (talk) 02:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not vandalize pages, as you did with this edit to List of British Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank. If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing. Boracay Bill (talk) 02:53, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning. You will be blocked from editing the next time you vandalize a page, as you did with this edit to List of British Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank. Alansohn (talk) 03:09, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on List of British Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Benea (talk) 03:32, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop assuming ownership of articles such as List of British Mark 8 Landing Craft Tank‎. Doing so may lead to disruptive behavior such as edit wars and is a violation of policy, which may lead to a block from editing. Nick-D (talk) 08:37, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have undone this version of the article, because the additions were unsourced (which violates Wikipedia:Verifiability), and were written in the first person (which is discoraged per Wikipedia:Manual of Style#First-person pronouns).

I note that the article has been the subject of edit warring recently, which is never good for the encyclopedia. I am posting this message to the talk pages of the involved contributors, and hope that they come here to discuss the issue and come to a solution, instead of resorting to coninual back-and-forth in the article itself. -- saberwyn 08:56, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for edit warring following repeated warnings. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text Your reason here below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.
