To link an article in Japanese wikipedia, do not put a space between the surname and the given name. Japanese name with Chinese characters should be inside parentheses followed by comma and the date of birth and death.
In content, long vowels should be indicated with macrons at least the first time the word is used, eg. Tōkyō. The macrons can be omitted in subsequent mentions.

However, article titles must always use short vowels (Tokyo), since macrons are difficult to enter and kana spelling cannot be expected from people not familiar with Japanese.

Long vowels

In content, long vowels should be indicated with macrons at least the first time the word is used, eg. Tōkyō. The macrons can be omitted in subsequent mentions.

However, article titles must always use short vowels (Tokyo), since macrons are difficult to enter and kana spelling cannot be expected from people not familiar with Japanese.

Examples

 • ろくじょう Rokujō (not Rokujyou)
 • たかふみ Takafumi (not Takahumi)
 • しんぶん Shimbun (not shinbun nor shinbun')

Interwiki links

To link an article in Japanese wikipedia, do not put a space between the surname and the given name. Japanese name with Chinese characters should be inside parentheses followed by comma and the date of birth and death.

How to know the Unicode for Japanese characters

Just type Japanese characters at Google search engine, then it returns HTML special characters like 神風 (神風).

The opening paragraph

In the title, the opening paragraph should look like this...

"At 3,776 meters (12,388 feet) tall, Mount Fuji (Japanese:富士山, Hepburn: Fuji-san, Nippon-shiki/Kunrei: Huzi-san) is the highest mountain on the island of Honshu and all of Japan."

Include the Nippon-shiki and/or the Kunrei in parenthenses next to the Japanese in the title.

A good article should look like:

ja:夏目漱石

Natsume Soseki (夏目 漱石, 1867 - 1916) is bahbah....
