U r Rollbacker

I have just granted you rollback rights. Please have a read over WP:ROLLBACK and remember that rollback is only for use against obvious vandalism. Please use it that way (it can be taken away by any admin at a moment's notice). Best of luck and thanks for volunteering! :-) wadester16 22:08, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Liverpool F.C. current kits

Can you please sort these out? (Unsigned post by User:DaytonaMike at approx 18:25, 26 June 2009 signed for him by Newportm (talk) 20:10, 26 June 2009 (UTC))[reply]

I have already rolled back my edit and posted my apology on talk. Thanks for the heads up. I suspect this will not be the last of this. I'm going to look into whether it's possible to update the Huggle filter for this one...I'm going to mark the page as patrolled now. Newportm (talk) 19:44, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

BITE!

All I was doing was pointing out this edit: [[1]] why must you violate WP:BITE?Editor437 (talk) 05:21, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, in the reverted post, what you were referring to was unclear, unreferenced, and unsigned. However, in this one, you have clarified in a very helpful way. So let me say now, thanks for your helpful, signed edit with a link to what you're talking about. Newportm (talk) 05:36, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Hi. I’m looking to add free-licensed photographs to the articles of the various seasons of MTV’s The Real World, so I’m contacting editors whom it appears may live in or near those cities. Do you live in or near Diamond Head, Hawaii, and if so, would you be able to take some high-quality pics of the Hawaii residence, and upload them here if I give you the location? If not, do you know anyone who can? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 05:43, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are on the right track! But no, I am a couple thousand miles away from Diamond Head. You might check other active members of the Wikipedia Hawaii Project for help. I appreciate how challenging it is to get non-copyvio images posted on here. Good luck. Newportm (talk) 06:04, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice, but I think I'll stick to the Diamond Head article's History, at least at first. Logically, I think I'll more likely find someone who lives near DH there than if I look at the Hawaii Project. :-) Nightscream (talk) 12:35, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I wasn't aware that the project page gave locations of editors. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 18:33, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your edit on this article as the author of the article blanked the page it now is G7 on the speedy delete criteria, best. BigDunc 20:43, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good work on that patent nonsense. Thank you for the follow up and keep up the good editing! Newportm (talk) 20:47, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome, but...

Hey there,

Thanks for the welcome! Don't know how automated your welcome is, so posting here in case it is of any use to you. I think I accidentally logged out. Deliberately writing this from the anonymous IP.

So, welcome unnecessary in my case but it is nice to see we are still welcoming people to Wikipedia. I must admit I was wondering where my preferences had gone. Best wishes User:SimonTrew AKA 81.102.134.214 (talk) 23:59, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. When I saw someone from an IP login using solid edit summaries, doing good work, I thought I should not miss the opportunity to make sure (s)he was properly welcomed aboard. I did that using the Friendly "gadget" available through "My preferences;" I modified the "canned" welcome with a note about the edit. I was never really welcomed to the project, but I think it is a nice touch. Glad it brought you a smile. Newportm (talk) 00:08, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for defending my user page

Thank you for reverting the vandalism on my user page, not once, but twice! Thank you. [mad pierrot][t c] 00:05, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We vandalism patrollers have to defend each other from the vandals; happy to help out. Newportm (talk) 00:08, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Using profanity.

(This section is in response to my post on User talk:76.254.69.167 about this edit (diff): "Using profanity instead of facts suggests your point is weak. Facts speak for themselves. Newportm (talk) 06:35, 16 July 2009 (UTC)"):[reply]

Wikipedia isn't censored. Using Profanity show's I'm mad. Fuck and Shit have articles, they are appropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.254.69.167 (talk) 06:36, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry that you're encountering some frustration. If you're feeling less than cool, calm, and collected, why not come back to the article later. Don't let it get you down. Newportm (talk) 06:39, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I will be made until the real building's name is changed. It's like someone changing the name of your grandfather. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.254.69.167 (talk) 06:42, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. I live in California, which used to be part of Mexico, or Indian country, depending on how far back you want to reach. I suppose there are people who will always consider it to be the Sears Tower, regardless of what the new occupants want to name it. Newportm (talk) 06:48, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Checkers

Did you know that you made an illegal move on my checkerboard? Men can only move 1 space, unless they jump over an opponents piece. You might want to try that again. I'm gonna revert back to your revision so you can try again, even though Acbe2 has moved... since Abce2 mistakenly moved one of my pieces when he took a turn... Until It Sleeps Wake me 18:54, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GEEZ! I can't even play checkers right! Thanks for the heads up. I'll go move...:) Newportm (talk) 19:16, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Alfa Romeo (yacht)

Updated DYK query On July 18, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Alfa Romeo (yacht), which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

No, this. It is always best if you copy it from the history of the DYK template itself. --BorgQueen (talk) 14:49, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I looked there, but I didn't see it; it's possible that I may have needed to purge the cached page before looking. Newportm (talk) 16:16, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-vandalism thanks

Thanks for reverting vandalism on my page. But...how do you know it wasn't true? Lololol. Best Regards, Piano non troppo (talk) 06:32, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was an easy call. I reverted the edit (diff) because it was just another unreferenced claim. Newportm (talk) 18:45, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Thanks for the Talk page revert

You're welcome! :-) At least three hours vandalizing, of course. I spent three hours already using Huggle to revert the vandalism by those silly trolls who think WP is a place to mess up. Chevy Impala 2009 03:50, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What Constitutes Vandalism?

I work for a company with a page in wiki, and wanted to edit the page to display the proper headquarters city for the company. After making the edit it was immediately reverted by someone. Yet your rules clearly state that changes should only be reverted when it is "obvious vandalism". I am trying to understand how I am supposed to go about making a legitimate change without having someone revert the change for some unknown reason? Kenhealy1 (talk) 03:51, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help Kenhealy1 (talk) 03:59, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to help; thank you for asking. In your most recently reverted edit on the page (diff), you added the location, but gave no substantiating citation for the edit. An edit with a citation (showing relevant line only) might look something like this:
| headquarters = [[San Francisco, CA]]<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.pillsburylaw.com/index.cfm?pageid=3|title=Pillsbury > About Us > Offices|work=Pllsbury web site|publisher=Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP|language=en-us|accessdate=2009-07-23}}</ref>
With the <ref> in place, someone will be able to refer to the citation to substantiate the claim, to see whether the edit is factual. That said, the footer at page bottom on that web page suggests the firm is headquartered in New York, not in San Francisco. The source I cited suggests that the reversion of the firm location edit was valid. When facts do not align with claims, this can also be a valid reason to revert an edit. As for vandalism, it is simply, easily, effectively reverted out-of-hand. On your talk page, I already made note of the conflict of interest issue and provided resources for you to read up on how that is viewed on Wikipedia. Good editing. Don't hesitate to ask for help. Thanks for your contributions. Newportm (talk) 04:13, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
