Yebol is a new, San Jose, CA based search engine company focusing on the development of a knowledge-based, semantic search engine platform. Yebol uses its artificial and human intelligence-infused algorithms to automatically cluster and categorize search results, Web sites, pages and contents. It aims to create a unique "homepage look" for every possible search term.[2] It launched its public beta version, Yebol.com, on July 27, 2009. At the time of its beta launch, Yebol officially released that it covered more than 10 million search terms with its knowledge-based, organized results format.[3] The company estimates that by the end of 2009 it will cover all conceivable search terms in its intelligent search results format.[4]

Technology

Yebol aims to combine the strengths of automated results generation engines, such as Google, with those of human-authored results engines, such as Mahalo.[5] Yebol is designed to utilize a combination of patented algorithms paired with human knowledge to build a Web directory for each search query. They have focused on developing a group of algorithms of association, clustering and categorization for automatically generating knowledge for search concepts, web sites, web pages and users. Yebol also integrates human labeled information into its algorithms. This technology allows for a multi-dimensional search results format: higher – summary of top sites and categories for queries; wider – related search terms; longer – results of expansion terms for the queries; deeper – inside links and keywords of search result pages. Instead of a multi-page, list-based search results format, Yebol provides a categorized structure of results on one screen, aimed at creating a "homepage" for any given topic.

History & Founder

Yebol was founded by Hongfeng Yin, Ph.D., who has more than 20 years research and development experience on artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, data mining and search. Most recently, Yin worked for more than four years at Yahoo! Data Mining Research team, where he built the core behavioral targeting technologies, products and more than a thousand models, which generate multi-hundred millions revenue. Prior to Yahoo, he was a software manager and Sr. staff software engineer with KLA-Tencor. He worked several years on noetic sciences and human think theory with professor Dai Ruwei and professor Tsien Hsue-shen (Qian Xuesen) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
