Denise L. Nappier is the current state treasurer of the U.S. state of Connecticut. A Democrat, she was first elected in 1998 and was reelected in 2002 and 2006. She is the first African American women elected to statewide office in the history of Connecticut and is currently the only black woman to hold statewide office in the United States.[citation needed]

Nappier was a fellow for United States Housing and Urban Development.[1]

Career

Prior to her election as state treasurer, Nappier served as treasurer of the City of Hartford for 10 years.[1] On December 16, 2006, Nappier gave the commencement address at Central Connecticut State University.

Nappier is a member of the boards of both the National Association of Corporate Directors and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems. [1] Also she serves a the treasurer for the National Association of State Treasurers. [1]
