Andreas Ottl (born 1 March 1985 in Munich) is a German footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for 1. FC Nuremberg on loan from Bayern Munich.[2] He signed his first professional contract on 1 July 2005. He also plays for Germany's U-21 Team. He is at present one of the only three Munich natives in the Bayern Munich squad, alongside Philipp Lahm and Christian Lell.[3] Ottl is a highly versatile player being able to play various midfield positions as well as playing as a defender.
Career
Ottl started playing football for the Munich-based football club SV Nord Lerchenau.[4] Since 1996 he played for different junior teams of Bayern Munich. In 2002 Hermann Gerland, coach of the Bayern Munich reserves team, nominated him to play in the Regionalliga (third division). As Ottl was one of the key players of the third division team, he was given the chance to play for the senior team. Ottl is now the sixth player of the Bayern youth set-up who is currently featured in the Bundesliga squad after signing professional forms on 1 July 2005, a first full-time contract for the youngster thus following in the footsteps of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Owen Hargreaves and company. He scored his first goal against FC Kaiserslautern.[4] In order to amass match practice he was loaned out to 1. FC Nuremberg in January 2010 for the remainder of the season.
