Ali Rıza Efendi (1839 – 1888) was the father of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the husband of Zübeyde Hanım.
He was born in Thessaloniki, Ottoman Empire and worked as a customs official. He died in 1888 when his son was 7 years old. Although a source points that he might be of Albanian descent [1] or that this can only be a matter for surmise.[2], many reliable sources state that he was of Turkish descent [3][4][5][6][7][8] His ancestors comes from those who were settled into the Balkans from Karaman region in order to increase the numbers of Turks in that region.
Ali Riza's family comes from the village Kodžadžik, Centar Župa Municipality, Macedonia, where there is a memorial house[9].
