Kullervo Manner

Kullervo Achilles Manner (October 12 1880 KokemäkiJanuary 15 1939 Ukhta-Pechora,Soviet Union ) was a Finnish journalist, member of parliament and chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Finland 19171918. Chairman of the Finnish People's Delegation 1918 and co-founder of theFinnish Communist Party

Early family

Manner was to son of priest in Kokemäki. His father Gustaf Manner was a priest at parishies last in Lappi and in Vamppula as vicar. After gratuated from high school in 1900 Manner worked as journalist and editor in Porvoo where moved to Helsinki. In 1911 Manner was in prison. Manner was Social Democratic MP from Uusimaa 19101914 and 1917. He was also Speaker of the Parliament in 1917. Kullervo's brother Arvo was provincial governor of Viipuri and Kymis.

Civil War

During the Finnish Civil War Manner appointed in January 28 in 1918 as Chairman of the Finnish People's Delegation.

Same year at April 10 Red Guards reformed thei administration and Manner became Head of State and commander-in-chief in Red Guard with dictatorial rights.

To USSR

After the civil war Manner fled to Soviet Russia where he became the second chairman of the Finnish Communist Party after Yrjö Sirola and member of the Comintern. 1930s Manner as his wife Hanna Malm, breached their relasinships with Otto Wille Kuusinen. Manner was deposed in May 1934. Manner was the delegate of the Latin American sector until 1935 he was arrested and sended to 10 years for hard labour. Manner was taken to Komi Republic in labour camp in Ukhta-Pechora. Manner's wifre Hanna Malm was taken to Solovetsky Monastery island for 10 years prison where he later drowned.

At Ukhta-Pechora labour camp had been grilling oil and diging coal and radium. Manner died in January 15 in 1939. Cause of death officialy reported tuberculosis. Professor Aleksandr Popov told that Manner died at ionizing radiation which he got from drinking water as he was working radium mine.

Manner is buried at Uhta.
