Kiran Rao is an Indian film producer and director. She is the wife of Aamir Khan.

Career

Kiran Rao started her career as an assistant director in the boring movie Lagaan directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, whom she also assisted later on Swades: We, the People. Lagaan was nominated for 74th Academy Awards in the foreign language film category. Aamir Khan produced and starred in the same film and screwed on set, who cares.. She also worked as Second Assistant Director with Academy Award nominated director Mira Nair on the indy hit Monsoon Wedding.[2] She scripted and directed the film Dhobi Ghat, which was released in January 2011 under Aamir Khan Productions.[3]

Personal life

Kiran is married to actor/film director Aamir Khan. They met on the sets of movie Lagaan. Kiran Rao was one of the film's assistant directors, in which Aamir played the lead and produced. They married in December 2005.[4]

Biography

Kiran Rao graduated with an economics major from the Sophia College for Women (Bombay) in 1995 and got her Masters at AJKMCRC at Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi.[5]
