Amy Meredith is an Australian pop rock band who formed in 2006, fronted by lead singer Christian Lo Russo (also on keyboard), with Joel Chapman and Cameron Laing on guitars, Wade Osborn on bass guitar and Kosta Theodosis on drums.

Who Is Amy Meredith?

The band have been asked many times how they came up with the name 'Amy Meredith',[1] and they have several different answers. These answers include: Amy was Christian's girlfriend and Meredith was Joel's and they put the two names together;[2][3] Amy Meredith is the girl that Wade has a crush on who works at the local corner store;[1] Amy Meredith was Christian's childhood babysitter;[4][5] Amy Meredith was the name of Cameron's childhood imaginary friend.[6]

Music career

Amy Meredith began their career when singer Christian Lo Russo, guitarists Joel Chapman and Cameron Laing, and bassist Wade Osborn, joined forces in Sydney's Sutherland Shire, in 2006.[7] They were later joined by Kosta Theodosis, to complete the current lineup.[8] The band piqued record label interest from their first live show, eventually signing a deal with Japanese label, Tsubi/Ksubi.[7] The label failed to deliver on expectations of US success,[9] so Amy Meredith moved on, and in 2008 released a self-titled EP,[9] which contained 4 original tracks: Black Eyes, This War, Running, and Outside Colours.[10] In the same year, Black Eyes was used as the TV station ident in the United States for the TV series Fringe.[11] 2008 also saw Amy Meredith tour with the Rock the Schools program.[12]

In 2009, Amy Meredith were signed to Sony Music Australia,[13] and in October 2009, they released their debut single Pornstar, which peaked at No. 65 on the ARIA Singles Chart.[14] The debut quickly became popular on the National Austereo network radio show, the Hot30 Countdown, taking first position on 23 December 2009.[15] In March 2010 Amy Meredith released their second single, Lying,[16] which peaked at No. 10,[17] making it their only top 10 single to date. Their debut album, Restless was released on 2 July 2010 and reached No. 8 on the ARIA Albums Chart.[18] Lying also hit number one on the Hot30 Countdown, on 14 May 2010.[19] In 2010, Lying was used as the station ident for the TV series Lie To Me, and Young At Heart was used for Home and Away.

In October 2011, Amy Meredith travelled to Afghanistan, where they played several shows for the Australian troops stationed there.[20]

In November 2011, Amy Meredith joined popular American band Good Charlotte for the sold out Jack Daniel's series of concerts, playing in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, impressing critics.[21] During this month, Amy Meredith also parted ways with label Sony, to work with Vector Management,[22] in a deal that would see them have more creative freedom over their music and career path.[23] 11 November 2011, saw the release of the first single from Amy Meredith's second album, due for release in 2012, entitled Pick Up Your Tricks. To coincide with the release of the single, they launched a nationwide competition in which they asked fans to videotape themselves performing their own trick, and post it to YouTube.[24]
