I've been in hospital, so I saw your note only today. I've watchlisted this page and hope to talk through any issues (like the edit-warring and tension with other editors) to resolve them. :Baboon, I haven't looked at the substantive issues, but what I can say is that it took ''me'' a long time to learn the basics about handling editorial dissonance: may I reveal a few of these? First, never think the current version allows someone else to "win"—every version on WP is by nature temporary. Second, the community rightly looks down on article instability (quickly paced reversions) and and overt incivility. To a certain extent this masks the real dissonance without resolving it, but it does make it a more welcoming environment for all of us, especially new editors. In heated discussion, my personal rules are to "post late, post brief", which often makes an editor look more authoritative, ironically, and calms the waters while still asserting you point.
The way to handle this current dispute—whatever it is (I'll look later)—is to create a new thread ("New section" button at the top) with a substantive, neutral title ("Which term to use", you know the kind of thing); set out your case briefly and cogently, acknowledge and even set out why you think other editors on the page disagree, and ask for comment by a wider group of editors. Tell me if you're doing this, and I'll show you how to advertise this at [[WP:VP|the village pump]] and the most appropriate wikiproject(s), where your post should be even briefer, calling for comment and providing a link to your thread.
I do hope this helps. Revision as of 23:57, 8 April 2012

March 2012

Your recent editing history at Al-Ahbash shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Al-Ahbash, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Invitation

Teahouse logo
Hello! Baboon43, I see there have been problems. It's just not worth edit-warring over "sect" versus "movement", and I see the other editor has been told this too. In any case, welcome to the English Wikipedia! I’d like to invite you to join other new editors and friendly hosts at the Teahouse. There you can meet people, ask questions and learn more about the English Wikipedia. Please take a look! You can also ask me any questions about editing (especially copyright)—just click on the green "(talk)" link. We hope you'll edit lots of articles, despite encountering problems at this first one. Edit warring at Al-Ahbash

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours for edit warring. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.

The complete report of this case is at WP:AN3#User:Baboon43 reported by User:AmandaParker (Result: 48h). EdJohnston (talk) 15:05, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Al-Ahbash shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Baboon43, criticizing other editors does not count as 'discussion.' Telling other editors that they aren't qualified to comment is disapproved here: 'you dont know anything about this group therefore you shouldnt be editing this article.' I strongly suggest that you wait for consensus on the talk page before undoing others' work. You are getting close to another block. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 00:18, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Baboon43. You've now made a second report against other editors at WP:AN3. Please note that your report has a formatting problem, and the header is full of ugly comment characters. Can you please remove the pointy-bracketed items from the wikitext? See how I fixed the previous report for you. Please also attach your signature to the end of the report. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 01:54, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 72 hours for edit warring, as you did at Al-Ahbash.

Wifione Message 02:48, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Baboon, I haven't looked at the substantive issues, but what I can say is that it took me a long time to learn the basics about handling editorial dissonance: may I reveal a few of these?

Tell me if you're doing this, and I'll show you how to advertise this at the village pump and the most appropriate wikiproject(s), where your post should be even briefer, calling for comment and providing a link to your thread.

I do hope this helps. Tony (talk) 23:57, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
