==Reception==
''India glitz'' congratulated debutante director R.T.Nesan for not creating a formula Tamil film. The praised actors Ashok and Sruthi Sharma for making best advantage of their roles, panned Vadivelu's character's humour . Special note was taken of Mahadevan for the solidity he brought to his character, and to the musical score created by Karthik Raja. While offering the film's lengthy could have benefited from trimming, they wrote "The director has made an honest and sincere attempt to give a film which has a good storyline and interesting screenplay."<ref name="I2">{{cite news|title=Muruga - An honest attempt|url=http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/review/8731.html|accessdate=August 21, 2013|newspaper=Indiaglitz|date=March 3, 2007}}</ref>

''[[Oneindia]]'' felt the film made a poor debut. While appreciating Vadivelu's humour, they expected more from the comedian. Toward director R T Nesan's writing story, screenplay and script, they felt he "managed to bring out the difference between puppy love and mature love," but expanded that "he has failed to bring the entire episode with heart touching scenes." The felt positive toward the cinematography of Padmesh, and wrote that "Karthik Raja's tunes keep the viewers in the seat. All the five songs make you want to sing along." The praised Ashok, noting that while he was an industry newcomer, "his dancing agility and performance in action scenes make you think he is an experienced actor. A welcome hero to the industry - he should concentrate a little more on his physique." They were less supportive of Shruti Sharma, noting that she did not attract the viewers because the director "failed to use Samiksha in 'proper' manner. She was featured only in one song." They concluded with "If the Director conceived more twistful and interesting sequences in the screenplay, the film could be more enjoyable. Better luck next time Nesan!"<ref name="Oneindia2">{{cite news|first=Immanuval|title=Muruga: A poor debut|url=http://entertainment.oneindia.in/tamil/reviews/2007/murugareview030307.html|accessdate=August 21, 2013|newspaper=[[Oneindia]]|date=March 3, 2007}}</ref>
