Tangla (IPA: ˈtæŋglə or ˈtæŋlə) is a town and a town area committee in earlier Darrang district and present Udalguri district (BTAD) in the Indian state of Assam.
It was a prominent businessplace (Jute, Bua (Beetlenuts), Rice etc. and a host of small scale industries) and centre of culture in Darrang district but due to violent agitation by Bodos and Bodo insurgency since past 20 years, its glory had suffered badly.

A really admirable aspect of Tangla is that it has a really diverse population including Tea-tribes, Bodos, Rabhas etc. which leads to its tolerant and rich culture.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Tangla had a population of 17,313. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Tangla has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 70%. In Tangla, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Assamese is the major languages spoken in the urban area while others vastly spoken languages include Bodo, Bengali, Nepali, Hindi, English, etc. Assamese, Bodo and Bangla are spoken widely in the surrounding areas.
