Stonewall is an upcoming American drama film directed by Roland Emmerich and written by Jon Robin Baitz. It is a fictionalized version of the Stonewall Riots.

The plot revolves around the 1969 Stonewall Riots, the violent clash that kicked off the gay rights movement in New York City. It centers on Danny Winters, who flees to New York, leaving behind his sister. As he finds his way to the Stonewall Inn, he meets Trevor before catching the eye of Ed Murphy, manager of the Stonewall Inn.

Production

In April 2013, Roland Emmerich spoke about the film, saying: "I may want to do a little movie – about $12–14 million – about the Stonewall riots in New York. It’s about these crazy kids in New York, and a country bumpkin who gets into their gang, and at the end they start this riot and change the world."[1] On March 31, 2014, it was announced it would film in Montreal.[2] On April 9, 2014, Jeremy Irvine joined the cast of the film.[3] On June 3, 2014, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ron Perlman and Joey King joined the cast.[4] Principal photography began on June 3, 2014, in Montreal.[5]

Release

On March 25, 2015, Roadside Attractions acquired distribution rights to the film.[6] In July 2015, Roadside Attractions scheduled the film for a September 25, 2015, release.[7]
