Introduction

Sangita S Jindal is the Chairperson of the JSW Foundation. Under her leadership, JSW Foundation drives social development projects within the JSW Group. She also leads Jindal Arts Centre (est 1992), Jindal Arts Creative Interaction Centre (JACIC), which are known for promotion of interdisciplinary arts activity, in India.

She is married to Mr.Sajjan Jindal and they together have 3 children - Tarini Handa,Tanvi Shete and Parth Jindal.


Biography

She was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata) on 30th August 1962. Her parents are Mr. Kalisha Kumar Kanoria and Mrs. Urmila Kanoria. She has a sibling Mr. Saket Kanoria. She completed her education from St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad.

Her elder daughter Tarini is married to Mr. Vikram Handa and her younger daughter is married to Mr. Radha Krishna Shete. Her son Mr. Parth Jindal is engaged to Ms. Anushree Jasani.


Career

As chairperson of JSW Foundation she has worked towards improving the quality of life of people by empowering them, by supporting sustainable scalable solutions in the past two decades.

Her philanthropic work ranges from vocational training to strong partnership and alliances with Institutions, holistic development for mentally challenged, to empowerment of women through a rural BPO[1], infant and maternal health initiative, amongst others.

Her passion to contribute towards conservation drove her, towards restoration of the interiors of Sir JJ College of Arts and SNDT Kanyashala[2].

She publishes Art India Magazine, established in 1994, which has become the reflection of contemporary Indian art, globally. As a patron of art[3], she has been the force responsible for setting up Kaladhaam[4] in Vijayanagar, an Arts village that has become the hub of artists and encourages all forms of Art.


Enabling change

She has been working towards the protection of environment and her intent to foster actions related to climate change, led to the institutionalization of Earth Care Awards[5].

An Eisenhower Fellow, she is on the Advisory Board of several prestigious Institutes, namely, World Monument Fund, Asia Society India Centre, Archana Trust, TEDx Gateway, amongst others. Awarded The Woman Philanthropist Award by FICCI amongst other notable awards, Sangita Jindal was recently invited to Chair the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles initiative in India.
