Air Swell (band)

AIR SWELL is a 3-piece Japanese rock band hailing from Shikoku, Japan but currently based in Tokyo. They describe their style as a mix of Alternative, Industrial, Brit Pop, Emo, Grunge, Loud, Punk and Heavy Rock . Their sound is a richly-layered-instruments-and-vocals kind of rock making the listeners unaware that they are only a 3-piece band.

image

An image of the act, sufficiently clear for display at 220 pixels' width. Set to only the image name (e.g. Example.png) not File:Example.png or [[File:Example.png|200px|abc]].

image_size

The image size should only be specified if the image is smaller than 220 pixels width. Enter the width in pixels without "px", for example 150.

image_upright

Scales the image thumbnail from its default size by the given factor. Values less than 1 scale the image down (0.9 = 90%) and values greater than 1 scale the image up (1.15 = 115%).

landscape

genre

The genre or genres of music performed by the act. Aim for generality (e.g. [[Hip hop music|Hip hop]] rather than [[East Coast hip hop]]) and preferably use two to four. Genres should be separated by using commas, {{Flatlist}} or {{Hlist}}. Genres should be wikilinked. Use piped links where needed, for example: [[Pop music|Pop]], [[Rock music|rock]]. Most genres are not proper nouns and should not be capitalized. However, the first word in a list of multiple genres should be capitalized. Genres that are sourced in the article itself do not require a source in the infobox, but sometimes it can be useful to have the source listed again anyway, to help prevent edit warring. discography

Link to an article about the musician's or group's discography. This field should not be displayed on printable version.

years_active

Period(s) during which the act was or has been active. Only calendar year ranges or a single calendar year should be listed; for example, do not distinguish between the period Paul McCartney was in the Beatles and his solo career. Use commas, {{Flatlist}}, or {{Hlist}}}. to separate non-consecutive periods, and denote ranges with an unspaced en dash (e.g. 1993–2004, 2005–present). See WP:DATE#Longer periods and WP:MOS#En dashes.

label

The record label or labels to which the act has been signed. Omit parenthetical dates; save that information for the main article as this degree of detail is better discussed in prose. Pipe out "Records", "Entertainment", "Music" or similar words from the end of any label's name. For example, use [[Universal Records|Universal]] rather than [[Universal Records]]. Separate multiple entries by using commas, {{Flatlist}}, or {{Hlist}}. Start with the oldest first.

A group from which this group has spun off.

spouse

This field is only relevant for individuals. The confirmed spouse(s) of the individual. Names of the spouses should be separated by using commas, {{Flatlist}}, {{Hlist}}, or {{Unbulleted list}}. {{Marriage}} may be used to indicate the date at which the marriage(s) started and ended where known.

partner

This field is only relevant for individuals. As for spouse or spouses, but the confirmed long term unmarried partner(s) of the individual.

History

At the heart of AIR SWELL is multi-talented singer/guitarist Hamaken who is not only the band's composer, lyricist and arranger but is also a concert promoter / event organizer of his own Kuroshio Drive. They started with two self-produced mini albums in 2010 your fairytale is neverending (released on 21 Feb 2010) and ツナガルキズナ (released on 20 August 2010).

Currently, their music is distributed by JMS (Japan Music System) which is a music distribution company handling mainly indie artists.

Their first album under a record label (INNOVATOR Records) is RIMFIRE (released on 2 August 2012) and their first album to be distibuted by JMS. Hamaken showed the wide range of his songwriting and music arranging talent with a variety of songs from their signature richly layered rock sound such as the song FAST LANE to the catchy radio friendly バッドボーイズセレナーデ (Bad Boys Serenade). RIMFIRE is also notable for featuring singer Hiro from the then up-and-coming band MY FIRST STORY in the song JAP POPPER. The two bands met through the small clubs and Livehouses circuit and Hamaken invited Hiro to be a guest singer in the song, saying he liked Hiro's voice.

They then released a mini album THE ART OF PSYCHO on 5 June 2013 with the 1st track I will pay back chosen to be made into an MV.

JMS A&R Executive Kentaro Suzuki put them into the BONEDS 4 Bands Split Album project to help expose 4 selected bands under JMS namely AIR SWELL, BLUE ENCOUNT, SWANKY DANK and MY FIRST STORY in 2013 [3]. Each band was asked to contribute two new songs to the album and AIR SWELL contributed No Going Back and ゴブリンズスケルシォ. The album BONEDS was released on 30 November 2013 by INTACT Records. It was followed by a successful 9-city joint Tour of all the four bands.

The band released an interestingly titled mini album All Lead Tracks on 4 June 2014. This time, ROACH's singer taama was invited as a guest singer on one of the tracks バイバイゲロメタル.

Sadly, in October 2014, bassist Taisuke announced his withdrawal from the band. He cited his reason as "circumstances that made him unable to give 100% to the band anymore" but did not elaborate more to the public. He played his last show with AIR SWELL on 26 October 2014 at Yokohama FAD which was them playing as the guest band for MY FIRST STORY's 虚言NEUROSE Tour .

The band then continued with bassist Hiromitsu who started as a support member at the time. Just like Taisuke, Hiromitsu is a finger-picking bass player. They started working on another album and MY CYLINDERS was released on 25 March 2015 with Hiromitsu already an official member by then, proving to be a worthy replacement to take over Taisuke's place.
