Elizabeth "Liza" Koshy (born March 31, 1996)[1] is an American actress and YouTube personality.

Koshy stars in the Hulu original television series Freakish as Violet Adams. She is also set to host MTV's Total Request Live beginning in October 2017. As of September 2017, Koshy's main YouTube channel has 11 million subscribers and more than a billion views, making it the 88th most subscribed channel on the platform.[4] Among other accolades, she won the Streamy Award for breakout content creator of 2016.[5]

Social media

Koshy began posting comic videos on the Vine platform, in 2013, under the pseudonym "Lizzza".[3] When Vine closed in 2017, Koshy had over 5 million followers.[1] By 2016, Koshy was also becoming noted on the YouTube platform.[6] In November 2016, just before the 2016 election, Koshy interviewed president Barack Obama on her YouTube channel to encourage voter registration.[7][8]

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Koshy was "the fastest YouTube personality [up to August 2017] to reach 10 million subscribers."[9] As of September 2017, her main YouTube channel has over 11 million subscribers and more than 1 billion views,[10] making it the 88th most subscribed channel on the platform.[4] Videos on her channel receive an average of nearly 10 million views.[11] As of the same month, her second YouTube channel had approximately 5 million subscribers,[12] she had more than 13 million followers on Instagram,[13] more than 2 million on Facebook[14] and more than 1 million on Twitter.[15] Her total social media penetration was approximately 45 million followers.[7]

Acting

In 2016, Koshy starred in the Hulu original series Freakish as Violet Adams.[16] In 2017, she is set to reprise the role in the show's second season.[17] She played the role of Aday in the 2016 feature film "Boo! A Madea Halloween",[7] and in 2017 she played one of the recurring characters in the YouTube Red series Escape the Night.[18][19]

Other activities

Koshy is set to be a host on Total Request Live on MTV, beginning in October 2017. Her previous hosting experience includes the live preshow at the 2017 Golden Globes Awards,[9] which received "a record-breaking 2.7 million live Twitter viewers.[7]

Koshy collaborates with The Giving Keys, a jewelry company that employs and supports the formerly homeless population, on a necklace collection.[20]
