History

In June 2017, The Tennessean reported that the company previously known as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) had rebranded and had taken the name of Global Force Wrestling. Executive Vice President of Anthem Sports and Entertainment Ed Nordholm told The Tennessean that the company had been planning an on demand service hat would tap into TNA's video library. The Tennessean noted that the library was valuable as TNA had previously signed many legendary wrestlers and several wrestlers who appeared in TNA later signed with WWE.[1] Global Force Wrestling hinted at the launch of Global Wrestling Network on Impact!, before announcing on the August 31, 2017 episode that a launch was planned in September.[2] Josh Mathews and Jeremy Borash stated that it would be offered on the main website as well as iOS and Android the network would offer free episodes of Impact! as back catalog offerings.[3] Nordholm appeared on Wrestling Observer Radio and stated that the goal of the network was to be an alternative brand to the WWE Network. Nordholm said he would like Pro Wrestling Noah, New Japan Pro Wrestling, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and other partners to join the network.[4][5] The network temporarily went live on September 12, 2017 while the infrastructure was being tweaked, but was taken down by the next day.[6]

The app officially launched on October 10, 2017. A 30 day free trial period was offered at launch. Over 1,000 hours of content from the GFW libraries is available to subscribers but the network also includes tape libraries from the Fight Network, Border City Wrestling and other sources.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
