Theeran is visited by Sathya, his daughter and the police officer who had called him in the beginning of the film. The police officer salutes him and the movie ends with a note conveying "The film is dedicated to all the people in the police department and we thank them for their bravery and courage".

Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (English: Brave - Chapter One) is an Indian action crime thriller film written and directed by Sathuranga Vettai fame Vinoth and produced by S.R. Prakashbabu and S. R. Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures. The story is based on true events operation Bawaria Case. Karthi and Rakul Preet Singh play the lead roles in this movie. This is also being dubbed into Telugu as Khakee - The Power of Police. The movie was released on 17 November 2017[1][2]

Plot

The film begins with a scene from a police station where the police inspector in charge orders that the documented criminal cases in the form of manuscripts be converted into digital format. During this process, a police officer comes across a really spine chilling audacity murder case from several years ago. After reading the case history, he calls up the police officer who had taken charge of the case, a former DCP (Deputy Commissioner Of Police), Theeran Thirumaran (Karthi). The story shifts to the year of 1995, where Theeran thirumaaran is in his police training college, undergoing training to be posted as DSP from TNPSC exams.He tops the training period. Simultaneously, in a house along the highway of Tamil Nadu , a group of people wreck the house by barging in, killing all the people inside, and taking the belongings.

Meanwhile, Theeran returns to his hometown of Tuticorin and falls in love with his new neighbour Priya (Rakul Preet Singh), and marries her. Later, DSP Theeran becomes known in the police department for his ways of handling various cases and he is later moved to Ponneri after a coital attack. Police Inspector Satya (Bose Venkat) and Theeran both handle the case, but lead nowhere with the case. Therefore, Theeran sends Sathya and a group of other police officers around India to see if they are able to identify the fingerprints of the davits. During this process, Theeran learns that these davits are actually tribe members of the left over cultural groups after the Indian Independence. They are eventually stopped by the carelessness of their superior officers and the case is put on hold.

Later, in 2003, the davits raid the house of Ruling party's MLA and kill him. The government is under heavy pressure from the public and the Home minister gives Dheeran, now a DCP, all powers and a full team to nab the dacoits. 1 year later they find one fingerprint match in Uttarpradesh prison and go to a lorry station to capture the dadaist. Learning that the lorry has left and it is heading to Ponneri, Theeran and the other officers rush to stop them. This time, the davits raid Sathya's house, killing his wife, and eventually injuring Priya, putting her in a coma.

Historical accuracy

The film deals with the depiction of one of the meticulously planned operations of the Tamil Nadu police that led to the gunning down of two members of the deadly Bawariya criminal tribes in Uttar Pradesh and arrest of others more than a decade ago. The operation against the criminals was launched in January 2005 soon after the murder of AIADMK Gummidipoondi MLA Sudarsanam. When armed dacoits struck affluent houses along National Highways in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa ordered intensive action against the culprits. A special team led by the then Inspector-General of Police (North Zone) S. R. Jangid worked in closed coordination with the Uttar Pradesh police and Central intelligence agencies to track down Oma Bawaria, Bsura Bawaria, Vijay Bawaria and others. The dacoits were also responsible for the murder of Congress leader Thalamuthu Natarajan in Salem and DMK leader Gajendran among others. The teams worked for several weeks putting together bits and pieces of information and camped in remote locations in Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab before killing Bsura Bawaria and Vijay Bawaria in an encounter. The prime suspects Oma Bawaria and K Lakshman alias Ashok Bawaria were arrested and brought to Tamil Nadu where a special court awarded them death penalty. The movie makers worked closely with Mr. Jangid, a recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, who is presently elevated to the rank of Director-General of Police, and other officers involved in the operation.[3]

Development

After Sathuranga Vettai, Vinoth narrated the script to Karthi. The actor was interested and agreed to work in the project after completing Kaashmora and Kaatru Veliyidai. Producers, Dream Warrior Pictures, signed the director and the actor, the title was confirmed as Theeran Adhigaram Ondru.[4] Producer S.R. Prabhu says that, there are many action sequences in the movie which is based on the life of an adventurous cop. Karthi wanted to undergo the training like the real cops and that’s why he is getting trained now.[5][6]

Cast and crew

After Siruthai, Karthi plays as a cop in Theeran Athigaram Ondru.[7][8] Abhimanyu Singh is playing antagonist and Rakul Preet Singh is playing female lead in this movie.[9] Abhimanyu Singh essays a role of gangster named Ohma is this movie.[10] Bose Venkat is playing a supporting role. Cinematographer of this movie is by Maya fame Sathyan Sooriyan, stunts by Dhilip Subbarayan, art department is handled by Singam3 fame Kathir, music is scored by Ghibran and editing is by Shivanandeeswaran.[11][12]

Filming

First leg of the filming commenced in Jan 2017 at Chennai.[13][14] Then the crew moved to Jaisalmer for the second leg of the filming.[15][16] In May 2017, the final schedule was again filmed at Chennai.[17][18]

Release

Production house announced that the first look of the movie will be released on 30 June 2017 and apparently the first look was revealed on 30 June 2017[19][20][21][22][23] Its reported that the movie will have theatrical release in September 2017.[24][25] The movie was released on 17 November 2017.[26]
